  •   Kleinia Stapeliiformis, also called Pickle Plant, is a drought-tolerant succulent from the Asteraceae family native to the rocky, arid regions of South Africa. It has earned serious collector status for its otherworldly appearance and simple care requirements.

It grows upright in a clustering habit with ribbed, cylindrical gray-green stems that closely resemble small pickles or candlestick columns. Tiny rudimentary leaves appear along the stems, and the surface carries a subtle waxy coating that helps it retain moisture in dry conditions. The plant clusters readily over time, creating a dense display that looks equally striking in a 4" pot on a windowsill or a 6" pot as a statement piece.

When given a nighttime temperature drop in autumn, it produces small, brush-like orange to red blooms at the stem tips. The flowers produce pollen and may trigger allergies in sensitive individuals.

Move it outside in summer through autumn in mild climates to encourage growth, but shelter it from heavy rain and bring it indoors before frost arrives. Keep it on a high shelf away from toddlers and pets, as the sap can cause skin and paw irritation and the plant is harmful if ingested. You can leave it up to ten days without water during the growing season.

  •   Pickle Plant Kleinia Stapeliiformis Cactus grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun but may scorch in intense south-facing windows.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in summer, pulling back to once a month in winter; stems will wrinkle slightly when thirsty.

Kleinia Stapeliiformis does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix, roughly 50/50, to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 50 and 85°F and is not frost tolerant below 30°F.

Kleinia Stapeliiformis is a slow to moderate grower that needs balanced succulent fertilizer only once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 30°F but performing best where hard freezes are rare. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. It also grows well in warmer coastal pockets of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest, as well as sheltered areas of North Carolina and Virginia where frost protection can be provided.
  • Q: How often should I water Pickle Plant Kleinia Stapeliiformis Cactus?
A: Every 10 to 14 days during spring and summer growth, then once a month in winter. Slight stem wrinkling is a sign that water is needed.

Q: Is this succulent safe for pets and children?
A: Pickle Plant Kleinia Stapeliiformis Cactus is not pet-friendly. The sap can irritate skin and paws, and the plant is harmful if ingested by cats, dogs, or small children.

Q: Which window direction works best for Kleinia Stapeliiformis?
A: Bright indirect light and partial sun work well. North or east-facing windows prevent the leaf scorch that can occur with prolonged direct afternoon sun in south-facing exposures. Rotate it regularly for even, upright growth.

Q: Can this plant survive indoors year-round?
A: Kleinia Stapeliiformis grows well indoors in a bright location but benefits from moving outside during summer and autumn to encourage blooming.

Q: How do I propagate Pickle Plant?
A: Take a healthy stem cutting, let it callous for a day or two, then place it in dry cactus mix. Roots typically develop within a few weeks in warm, bright conditions.

Q: What makes this a rare find for collectors?
A: Pickle Plant combines pickle-like stems with a compact size and straightforward care requirements, along with an architectural form and occasional orange-red blooms.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
