  •   Sedum reflexum 'Blue Spruce', also called Blue Spruce Stonecrop, is a cold hardy, drought tolerant succulent in the Crassulaceae family. Native to rocky slopes and dry hillsides across central and western Europe, it grows in lean, well-drained soils where other plants struggle and has naturalized widely throughout its native range.

The plant earns its common name from needle-like leaves that closely resemble miniature spruce foliage, forming dense, clumping and trailing mats of silvery blue-green rosettes. Fleshy, cylindrical leaves spiral along sprawling stems, giving it a textural quality that spreads outward over time. It typically reaches 3 to 8 inches tall and spreads 1 to 2 feet wide in a low, clustering mat.

Cheerful star-shaped yellow flowers bloom on upright stems in early summer, typically from June through July, attracting pollinators with pollen-rich blooms. A drop in nighttime temperatures in spring can encourage more robust flowering, so placing it in a spot with natural temperature variation supports seasonal color.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside for summer, and it handles balcony wind and rain without trouble, staying outdoors well into autumn. It is pet friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs. Propagation is straightforward from stem cuttings or by dividing its clumping clusters in spring or summer; simply let cuttings callous for a day or two before planting in gritty, well-draining soil.

  •   Sedum reflexum 'Blue Spruce' grows well in full sun to partial sun, needing at least four to six hours of direct light daily and rotating regularly for balanced growth.

Water it every one to two weeks, allowing the soil to dry out completely between sessions.

Sedum 'Blue Spruce' does best in fast-draining, gritty soil such as a cactus and succulent mix blended with coarse perlite or pumice.

It handles temperatures from around 20°F and above, showing strong frost tolerance that sets it apart from many other succulents.

Sedum 'Blue Spruce' grows at a moderate pace and benefits from diluted balanced fertilizer applied once in early spring to support seasonal growth.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 9, tolerating frost down to approximately 40°F below zero at the lower end of its range. It grows outdoors year-round across the Pacific Northwest, the Great Plains, the Northeast, the Southeast, and the Southwest, thriving in states including Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, California, and Florida.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
