  •   Sedum Spathulifolium is a hardy drought-tolerant stonecrop succulent native to the rocky coastal cliffs and mountain slopes of western North America, ranging from British Columbia through California. It is a member of the Crassulaceae family and grows naturally in gritty, lean soils where most plants struggle, making it one of the toughest and most resilient succulents available.

The plant forms tight, low-growing rosettes that clump together into dense mats of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves. Foliage ranges from silvery-green and blue-gray to purple and pink, with colors intensifying under bright light and cooler temperatures, and the leaves are often dusted with a chalky white powdery coating called farina.

Small star-shaped yellow flowers bloom on short upright stems in late spring to early summer, typically appearing in clusters. A drop in night temperatures during spring helps trigger blooming, so moving it outdoors or placing it near a cooler window encourages flowering. It produces pollen and is pet-friendly, safe for cats and dogs.

Sedum Spathulifolium works well in rock gardens, container arrangements, green roofs, and sunny windowsills. It tolerates dry heated indoor air and handles drafty spots better than most succulents. Move it outside for summer and let it stay through autumn with cover from heavy rain to keep the rosettes looking their best. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Indigenous peoples of its native range have a history of using it for edible and medicinal purposes.

  •   Sedum Spathulifolium grows well in partial sun to full sun, requiring 4 to 6 or more hours of bright direct light daily.

Water it deeply every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, cutting back to once a month or less in winter.

Sedum Spathulifolium performs best in fast-draining, gritty cactus and succulent mix amended with extra perlite or coarse sand.

It handles temperatures from around 20°F up to 90°F and shows strong frost tolerance in mild winters.

Sedum Spathulifolium is a slow to moderate grower needing only a light balanced fertilizer once in early spring.

It is hardy in USDA zones 5 through 9, tolerating frosts down to around -20°F. It grows outdoors year-round across a wide stretch of the country, including Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, and much of the Pacific Northwest including Oregon and Washington. It also thrives in warmer zones 8 and 9 regions like Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida panhandle, and coastal California.
  • Q: Is Sedum Spathulifolium pet-friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What window direction works best for indoor growth?
A: Sedum Spathulifolium does best in a bright south or east-facing window with several hours of direct sun. Leaf edges may redden or brown in intense south-facing glass during peak summer, so rotating it occasionally promotes even color development.

Q: How do I propagate Sedum Spathulifolium?
A: Gently separate offsets from the clump or root individual rosette cuttings in dry, gritty soil. Let cut ends callous for a day or two before planting.

Q: Can it survive cold winters outdoors?
A: Sedum Spathulifolium is frost-tolerant and survives temperatures as low as -20°F, staying outdoors through autumn and winter in most zones 5-9 without protection.

Q: Will Sedum Spathulifolium survive if watering is skipped?
A: It is drought-tolerant enough to go 10 days or more without water, making it suitable for travelers or those with inconsistent watering schedules.

Q: How large does it get?
A: Sedum Spathulifolium forms compact, low-growing mats that typically stay a few inches tall and slowly spread outward through clumping rosettes over time.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
