  •   Sedum album 'Coral Carpet' is a low-growing succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to Europe, western Asia, and North Africa. It naturally colonizes rocky slopes, walls, and dry meadows where most plants struggle, and is known among rock garden enthusiasts for growing in conditions that challenge less resilient plants.

It forms a dense, clumping carpet of tiny cylindrical leaves that shift from bright green to coral-red as temperatures cool or stress increases. The leaves are plump and glossy, tightly packed along creeping stems that spread steadily outward, creating a low mat that rarely exceeds 3–4 inches tall. As a stonecrop ground cover, it fills gaps between pavers, cascades over walls, and clusters into patches with minimal encouragement.

Small white star-shaped flowers appear on upright stems in late spring through summer, attracting pollinators to the garden. The blooms do not have strong fragrance but produce pollen that may be relevant for allergy-sensitive households. Flowering occurs annually and draws bees and beneficial insects throughout the season.

Move it outside for summer to encourage the best coral color, then leave it outdoors well into autumn since it tolerates frost exceptionally well. It handles balcony wind, rain, and drafty outdoor spots without trouble, and survives dry heated air indoors. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It works well as a rock garden plant, a ground cover between stepping stones, or a container edge plant for cold-hardy succulent arrangements.

  •   Sedum album 'Coral Carpet' grows well in full sun to partial sun, with more direct light producing the most vivid coral-red leaf color.

Water it every 10–14 days during active growth, then cut back to monthly or less in winter.

Sedum 'Coral Carpet' performs best in well-draining, gritty soil such as a cactus mix blended with coarse perlite or gravel.

It tolerates temperatures from around 30°F down to –30°F with ease, and handles hot summer highs above 90°F.

Sedum 'Coral Carpet' is a moderate to fast spreader that fills gaps and forms a dense mat over one to two growing seasons, rarely needing fertilizer beyond a light feed in spring.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3–9. It grows outdoors across Alaska, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and California. It also grows well in the mid-Atlantic and southern states, including Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and northern Florida.
  • Q: How much sun does Sedum album 'Coral Carpet' need to develop its coral color?
A: Full sun brings out the most intense coral-red tones. Partial sun also supports growth but produces greener leaves and slower spread.

Q: What's the most common reason this plant struggles indoors?
A: Overwatering is the main culprit. Sedum album 'Coral Carpet' is far more forgiving of underwatering than sitting in wet soil, which causes root rot.

Q: How fast does Sedum 'Coral Carpet' spread once planted?
A: It fills in gaps and forms a dense mat within one to two growing seasons, making it an excellent ground cover for larger spaces.

Q: Is it safe for cats and dogs?
A: Sedum 'Coral Carpet' is generally considered low-toxicity, but ingestion can cause mild stomach upset in pets, and the sap may irritate paws or skin with contact.

Q: Can Sedum 'Coral Carpet' survive a week-long trip without watering?
A: Yes, fleshy leaves store water, making it extremely forgiving for travelers and allowing it to go unwatered for extended periods.

Q: How do I propagate this succulent?
A: Snip a stem cutting, let it dry for a day or two, then press it onto moist, well-draining soil. Roots establish within a few weeks, or divide established mats just as easily.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
