  •   Peperomia obtusifolia 'Lemon Lime', also called the baby rubber plant, is a compact tropical houseplant in the Piperaceae family. It originates from the tropical and subtropical regions of Central and South America, where it grows as an epiphyte or ground-dweller in humid forest understories.

The leaves are rounded, slightly cupped, and thick with a semi-glossy surface. Each leaf is patterned in two-tone yellow-green and brighter lime green, with the lighter shade running along the center and edges shifting to a deeper tone. The plant grows in an upright, bushy habit, staying compact and dense as it matures.

Lemon Lime Baby produces small, slender flower spikes typical of peperomias, though it is grown almost entirely for its foliage. It purifies indoor air and filters formaldehyde and other airborne toxins from its environment. This plant is pet friendly, so it shares spaces safely with cats and dogs.

Rotate Lemon Lime Baby every few weeks so all sides receive even light exposure. It thrives under standard office LED lighting and near kitchen areas where ambient moisture is higher. Keep it away from direct airflow from air conditioning or heating vents, though it handles warm, dry heated air without issue. You can move it outside for summer, but cover it from rain and keep it out of south-facing sun exposure, where the leaves can scorch. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it wilts slightly when dry.

  •   Peperomia obtusifolia 'Lemon Lime' grows well in bright indirect light and tolerates medium light under office LEDs.

Water it every 10 to 14 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.

Lemon Lime Baby does best in a well-draining mix of perlite and potting soil to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and stays away from cold drafts below 50°F.

Lemon Lime Baby is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, where frost is rare or absent, and cannot tolerate temperatures below 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and southern Texas. It also grows outdoors in Arizona, Louisiana, and other areas within those zones.
  • Q: What light does Peperomia obtusifolia 'Lemon Lime' need near a window?
A: A spot a few feet back from an east- or west-facing window works well. South-facing windows can scorch the leaves, so keep it back or filter the light with a sheer curtain.

Q: How do I know if I am overwatering?
A: Peperomia obtusifolia 'Lemon Lime' stores water in its thick leaves, so overwatering is the more common problem. Yellow, mushy leaves and soggy soil are the main signs.

Q: Can Lemon Lime Baby grow in a terrarium?
A: Yes, it does well in open terrariums where airflow is sufficient and moisture does not build to excessive levels.

Q: Is this plant safe for cats and dogs?
A: Lemon Lime Baby is non-toxic to cats and dogs and is listed as pet friendly.

Q: How do I propagate Lemon Lime Baby?
A: Stem cuttings taken just below a leaf node root readily in moist potting mix or water during the growing season.

Q: Can this plant stay outside in autumn?
A: Lemon Lime Baby can stay outdoors into autumn as long as nighttime temperatures stay above 50°F. Bring it inside before the first cold snap.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
