  •   Kalanchoe delagoensis, also called Mother Of Millions, is a succulent native to the arid regions of Madagascar. It has naturalized across tropical and subtropical zones worldwide, growing in rocky, well-drained soils with minimal rainfall. The plant is drought-tolerant, offering uncomplicated care and consistent performance indoors and out.

It grows upright and clusters over time, producing tall, slender stems lined with narrow, tubular gray-green leaves marked with purple-brown blotches. The leaves are smooth and waxy, and each leaf tip sprouts tiny plantlets, the hallmark feature that gives this chandelier plant succulent its common name. These miniature offsets drop and root readily, making every plant a living propagation machine.

Kalanchoe delagoensis produces clusters of pendulous, tubular flowers in orange-red to coral shades, typically appearing in late winter to early spring. Blooming is triggered by cooler night temperatures, so a seasonal drop in nighttime temps encourages a good flower display. Fragrance is minimal, but the vivid hanging blooms against the spotted foliage create visual interest during the bloom season.

It is a fast grower that benefits from regular pruning to keep its upright, clustering habit tidy and compact indoors. The plant releases oxygen at night, making it a smart choice for a bedroom shelf. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside for summer in a bright, sheltered spot, but keep it covered from heavy rain and rotate it periodically for even, balanced growth. Keep it away from cats and dogs, which shouldn't nibble or eat it, and place it on a high shelf out of reach of small children.

  •   Mother of Millions Kalanchoe delagoensis grows well in bright indirect light to full sun but scorches in intense south-facing windows during peak summer.

Water it every 2-3 weeks, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

Kalanchoe delagoensis does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with extra perlite for optimal drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 60-85°F and should be brought indoors before temps drop near freezing.

Kalanchoe delagoensis is a fast grower that benefits from light balanced fertilizer monthly in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 9-11, tolerating lows only down to around 25-30°F before cold damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, and Nevada. It also grows along the mild coastal stretches of Oregon and in select microclimates throughout Zone 9 and Zone 10 regions of these warmer states.
  • Q: How often should I water Mother of Millions Kalanchoe delagoensis?
A: Every 2-3 weeks, but check that the soil has dried completely before watering again. Overwatering causes root rot far more often than underwatering.

Q: Is this plant safe for homes with cats and dogs?
A: Mother of Millions Kalanchoe delagoensis is toxic if ingested, so keep it on a high shelf well out of their reach and away from small children.

Q: What light conditions does Kalanchoe delagoensis prefer?
A: It grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, and can even grow under office LEDs. Bright natural light produces the best growth and bloom.

Q: Can this plant handle indoor summer care?
A: Kalanchoe delagoensis loves spending summer outdoors in a bright, sheltered spot with protection from heavy rain. Bring it back inside before nighttime temps approach freezing.

Q: How fast does Mother Of Millions grow?
A: It is a fast grower and may need occasional pruning to stay tidy. The tiny plantlets along leaf tips also root quickly, making propagation effortless.

Q: What temperature range does this plant need?
A: Mother Of Millions does best between 60-85°F, though it can handle brief dips below that range. Move it indoors once nighttime temperatures approach freezing.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
