  •   Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Calandiva Purple', also called Flaming Katy, is a compact flowering succulent in the Crassulaceae family native to the rocky highlands of Madagascar. It has adapted well to indoor life and produces long-lasting blooms without demanding much attention. Whether you're a first-time plant parent or an experienced collector, this drought-tolerant succulent delivers color with minimal effort.

Calandiva Purple grows in an upright, clumping habit with thick, waxy leaves that have scalloped edges and hold moisture well. The foliage is deep glossy green, forming tidy clusters that look full and established even when the plant isn't flowering. Its compact size makes it suited for windowsills, desks, and shelves where space is limited.

Calandiva Purple produces densely packed, fully double blooms in purple, with each flower head resembling a tiny rosebud, which is why it's often called a rosebud kalanchoe. Blooms last for several weeks, and with the right care, the plant will rebloom, especially when given a nighttime temperature drop to trigger a new flowering cycle. The flowers have no fragrance.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. During summer, move it outside to a sheltered spot, but protect it from direct rain, as excess moisture causes rot. Keep it on a high shelf away from cats, dogs, and small children, since ingestion is harmful. Calandiva Purple grows under office LED lighting when natural light is limited, so placement options are flexible.

  •   Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Calandiva Purple' grows well in bright indirect light or partial sun but scorches in intense south-facing windows.

Water it every 10-14 days, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.

Calandiva Purple does best in a well-draining succulent or cactus mix blended with perlite for extra aeration.

It prefers temperatures between 60-85°F and should never be exposed to frost or temperatures below 50°F.

Calandiva Purple is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 10-12 and tolerates a brief minimum of around 30-35°F, performing best where frosts do not occur. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, California, Arizona, Texas, and Louisiana, as well as parts of Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. It also succeeds in southern Nevada, mild coastal stretches of Oregon and Washington, and warm pockets of New Mexico and North Carolina, though elsewhere it performs best as an indoor plant.
  • Q: How often should I water Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Calandiva Purple'?
A: Every 10-14 days during the growing season after the soil dries completely. Reduce watering to once monthly in winter.

Q: What are the signs that it needs water?
A: Kalanchoe blossfeldiana 'Calandiva Purple' leaves will soften slightly and lose their firm, waxy feel. The soil should crumble easily in your fingers before you water.

Q: Does Calandiva Purple require special conditions to rebloom?
A: Give it a nighttime temperature drop of around 10°F and reduce light exposure to 12-14 hours of darkness for 4-6 weeks to trigger new buds.

Q: Is it safe around pets and children?
A: Calandiva Purple should not be nibbled or eaten by cats, dogs, or small children, so keep it on a high shelf out of reach.

Q: Can Flaming Katy grow indoors under artificial light?
A: It grows under office LED lighting when natural light is limited, though bright indirect light provides stronger growth.

Q: What window placement works best for this plant?
A: Flaming Katy handles east or west-facing windows well but can scorch in intense south-facing light. North-facing windows work if the area is bright enough to read comfortably.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
