  •   Haworthia Turgida, also called Windowpane Plant, is a compact succulent in the Asphodelaceae family native to the rocky hillsides and scrublands of South Africa's Western and Eastern Cape. It evolved in partially shaded conditions beneath shrubs and rocky overhangs and grows well in low-light indoor spaces.

It forms neat, clumping rosettes of fleshy, upright leaves that are bright green and semi-translucent near the tips, with subtle windowed areas that allow light to filter into the leaf interior. Leaves are plump and turgid (the origin of its name), lined with fine white marginal teeth that give each rosette a structured appearance. As it matures, it offsets freely, creating dense clusters that fill a pot with layered texture. Individual rosettes stay compact at 2 to 4 inches across.

Haworthia Turgida produces slender flower stalks bearing small tubular white to pale pinkish blooms in late spring or early summer. A slight drop in nighttime temperatures can encourage flowering. It also filters formaldehyde and other toxins from indoor air while releasing oxygen at night.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered, shaded spot, and bring it inside before frost arrives. It is pet-safe around cats and dogs and works equally well in terrariums, on desks, or in shallow dish gardens. Propagate it easily by separating the offsets clustering around the base, letting each dry for a day, then potting into fresh succulent mix.

  •   Haworthia Turgida grows well in low to bright indirect light and grows well under standard office LEDs but scorches in direct south-facing sun.

Water it every 2 to 3 weeks during spring and summer, then cut back to once a month or less in winter.

Haworthia Turgida grows well in fast-draining succulent or cactus mix amended with extra perlite or coarse grit.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 80°F and requires protection from frost below 30°F.

Haworthia Turgida is a slow to moderate grower needing only a light balanced fertilizer once or twice during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 9 through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25 to 30°F but performing best with frost protection. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. Mild coastal stretches of Oregon and Zone 9 microclimates in New Mexico, Arkansas, and North Carolina can also support it with minimal winter cover.
  • Q: Is Haworthia Turgida pet-safe?
A: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs and safe for households with curious pets.

Q: How do I know when to water?
A: Stick your finger an inch into the soil; if it feels dry, water thoroughly. The leaves will look slightly soft or wilted.

Q: How big does Haworthia Turgida get?
A: Individual rosettes stay compact at 2 to 4 inches across and cluster over time without becoming unruly.

Q: What does scorching look like on the foliage?
A: Haworthia Turgida exposed to harsh direct sun develops brown or tan patches and bleached areas on the leaves, especially on the south-facing sides.

Q: Can Windowpane Plant handle outdoor summers?
A: Move it to a sheltered, shaded or bright indirect spot outdoors and protect it from heavy rain.

Q: How do I propagate this succulent?
A: Separate the pups clustering around the base, let each offset dry for a day, then pot into well-draining succulent mix.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
