  •   Haworthia reinwardtii, also called zebra wart, is a compact columnar succulent in the family Asphodelaceae, native to the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It grows naturally in rocky, semi-arid environments, often sheltered beneath shrubs or along dry hillsides.

The leaves are firm, dark green, and covered in raised white tubercles arranged in tight spiral rows along each column. Haworthia Reinwardtii forms a single upright stem that clusters over time, with each column reaching around 4 to 6 inches tall. The white dots on the dark green surface are dense and evenly distributed, giving the plant its distinctive zebra wart appearance.

It produces thin, tubular pinkish-white flowers on slender stems, typically in spring or early summer. The blooms are small and appear once a year, and a slight drop in nighttime temperature can encourage flowering. Haworthia Reinwardtii is pet-friendly and safe for cats and dogs in the home.

Move it outside for summer in a sheltered spot, and bring it back indoors before temperatures drop in autumn. Keep it away from rain, as sitting water in the rosette or on the soil can cause rot. It grows well under standard office fluorescent or LED lighting, and rotating the pot every few weeks keeps growth even on all sides. Keep it away from heating vents and air conditioning units, though it tolerates dry heated indoor air without trouble.

  •   Haworthia reinwardtii grows well in bright indirect light and performs under office LED or fluorescent lighting.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

Haworthia Reinwardtii does best in a gritty, fast-draining cactus or succulent mix with added perlite.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should be kept away from cold drafts below 50°F.

Haworthia Reinwardtii is a slow-growing columnar succulent; feed it with a diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 25°F to 30°F with protection. It grows outdoors in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It also grows outdoors in parts of Oregon, Alabama, and Mississippi where zone 9 conditions apply.
  • Q: Can Haworthia reinwardtii grow in an office without natural light?
A: It handles standard office fluorescent and LED lighting well, though growth will be slower than in a bright window spot.

Q: Why are the leaves on my succulent turning yellow?
A: Haworthia reinwardtii most often yellows from overwatering. Let the soil dry out fully before the next watering, and check that the pot drains freely.

Q: How do I propagate Haworthia Reinwardtii?
A: The easiest method is separating the offsets that form at the base of the mother plant. Let the cut end callous for a day or two before potting it in dry succulent mix.

Q: What window direction works best for this succulent indoors?
A: An east- or west-facing window keeps Haworthia Reinwardtii in the bright indirect light it needs. A south-facing window can scorch the leaves, so keep it at least a few feet back or use a sheer curtain.

Q: Can Haworthia Reinwardtii be left alone during a short trip?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without water without any issue.

Q: Is this plant safe for pets?
A: Haworthia Reinwardtii is pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
