    •   Haworthia Cooperi Var. Retusa is a compact succulent in the Asphodelaceae family, native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa where it grows tucked into rocky, semi-arid soils. Also called the star window plant, this rare translucent succulent is popular among collectors worldwide and suitable for beginners.

        Haworthia Retusa forms tight, upright rosettes of plump, triangular leaves that taper to a flattened, translucent tip. Those glassy, windowed leaf tops allow light to filter into the leaf interior, setting it apart from other Haworthia varieties. The leaves are soft green, sometimes flushed with blue or purple tones, and remain compact at just 3–4 inches across.

        It may produce slender flower stalks bearing small, tubular white to pale pink blooms, usually in spring or early summer. A cool nighttime temperature drop can encourage reblooming. Beyond flowers, this plant releases oxygen at night.

        Use Haworthia Retusa in terrariums, desk displays, and succulent gift arrangements. Move it outside for summer enjoyment but provide shelter from rain and harsh afternoon light. You can leave it up to ten days without water. The plant communicates thirst through slight leaf wrinkling or wilting. It is pet-safe around cats and dogs.
