  •   Haworthia 'Broteriana' (Haworthia broteriana) is a compact, branching succulent native to the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, where it grows in rocky, shaded outcrops. It belongs to the Asphodelaceae family and is considered a rare find among succulent collectors for its unusual branching habit.

The leaves are firm, upright, and lance-shaped, arranged in a tight rosette that offsets and branches over time to form a low, spreading cluster. Each leaf is a pale lime green covered in raised white tubercles, giving the surface a bumpy, textured appearance. The rosettes stay compact, typically reaching around 3 to 4 inches across, and the overall form stays low to the ground.

Haworthia Broteriana produces slender, tubular flowers on thin stalks that rise well above the foliage. The blooms are small and white with pale green or pinkish striping, and it typically flowers in late spring to summer. A nighttime temperature drop encourages blooming. It is pet friendly, with no toxicity to cats or dogs.

Rotate the pot every few weeks so each side of the plant receives even light exposure. Haworthia Broteriana grows well under standard office LED lighting and can move outside for summer in a shaded or partially shaded spot. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it handles dry heated indoor air without issue. Keep it away from direct airflow from air conditioning or heating vents, as that concentrated stream of air dries out the leaves faster than ambient heated air does.

  •   Haworthia 'Broteriana' grows well in bright indirect light or medium light, and it also grows under office fluorescent or LED lighting without issue. Keep it away from direct south-facing windows, as the leaves scorch in prolonged direct sun.

Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, letting the soil dry out fully between waterings. In winter, reduce watering to once a month.

Haworthia Broteriana does best in a well-draining cactus or succulent mix blended with extra perlite to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F indoors and should not be exposed to temperatures below 40°F.

Haworthia Broteriana is a slow-growing succulent; feed it once in spring and once in summer with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating outdoor conditions down to around 25°F to 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and parts of the Gulf Coast. It also grows outdoors in coastal areas of Oregon and Washington where winters stay mild.
  • Q: Is Haworthia 'Broteriana' safe for cats and dogs?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Haworthia 'Broteriana' wilts very slightly and the leaves feel less firm when the soil has been dry too long. Overwatering is more common, and roots will rot if the soil stays wet between waterings.

Q: Can Haworthia Broteriana grow in a terrarium?
A: It can work in an open terrarium with good airflow, but avoid closed terrariums since the trapped moisture leads to rot.

Q: How do I propagate this succulent?
A: Haworthia Broteriana offsets naturally as it branches, and those offsets can be separated from the base, allowed to callous for a day, and potted into dry succulent mix.

Q: Does Haworthia Broteriana need to be rotated?
A: Rotate the pot a quarter turn every two to three weeks so all sides of the rosette receive even light exposure.

Q: Can it survive while I travel?
A: Haworthia Broteriana holds water in its leaves and can go up to ten days without any watering, so short trips are not a problem.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
