  •   Graptosedum 'Blue Giant' is a hybrid succulent from the Crassulaceae family, born from a cross between Graptopetalum and Sedum. It originates from the rocky, arid regions of Mexico and the American Southwest, where its parent plants evolved to store water and thrive in lean conditions. It is suited to both new and experienced plant collectors.

The plant forms wide rosettes of thick, spoon-shaped leaves coated in a soft powdery farina that gives them a blue-green hue. The leaves are chunky and substantial, and the plant earns its "Giant" name by spreading wide and trailing outward as it matures. The silvery, powdery coating on the foliage creates an almost frosted appearance.

Under the right conditions, it produces small star-shaped flowers on slender stems when temperatures drop at night, encouraging seasonal blooms. Moving it outside for summer and allowing cooler autumn nights can trigger flowering indoors, though blooms are not guaranteed.

It grows best in a hanging basket where its trailing stems cascade downward, or as a floor statement plant in a wide, shallow pot that lets it spread. It handles dry heated indoor air well and can go up to ten days without water. The plant is non-toxic to cats and dogs. Rotate it regularly for even growth, keep it away from direct air vents, and bring it indoors or under cover when heavy rain moves in.

  •   Graptosedum 'Blue Giant' grows well in bright indirect light to full sun, ideally positioned near a south- or east-facing window.

Water it every 10-14 days during the growing season and every 3-4 weeks in winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Graptosedum 'Blue Giant' grows well in a gritty, well-draining cactus and succulent mix amended with extra perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 60-80°F and should be protected from frost below 25°F.

Graptosedum 'Blue Giant' grows well in moderate pace and benefits from diluted balanced fertilizer applied once or twice during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, where winter temperatures rarely dip below 25°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina, and along the mild Oregon coast. Gardeners in cooler zones can move containers outdoors in spring and summer, bringing them inside before the first frost.
  • Q: How often should I water Graptosedum 'Blue Giant'?
A: During warm months water every 10-14 days, then drop back to every 3-4 weeks once temperatures cool. Yellow leaves typically signal overwatering or soil that stays wet rather than thirst.

Q: Is it safe to keep around cats and dogs?
A: Graptosedum 'Blue Giant' is non-toxic to both cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for households with curious pets.

Q: Does Graptosedum 'Blue Giant' propagate easily?
A: It propagates readily from leaf cuttings or stem cuttings allowed to callous for a day or two before being placed on moist succulent soil. New rosettes typically emerge within a few weeks.

Q: Can it scorch in direct sun?
A: Graptosedum 'Blue Giant' handles partial to full sun but may scorch in intense, unfiltered south-facing windows during peak summer heat. Acclimate it gradually when moving to a brighter spot or outdoors.

Q: What is the growth habit of Graptosedum 'Blue Giant'?
A: It sends stems outward and downward as it matures, making it well-suited for hanging baskets or the edge of a raised planter where stems can extend freely.

Q: What window placement works best indoors?
A: South- and east-facing windows provide the brightness Graptosedum 'Blue Giant' needs. Keep it at least a few feet from the glass during peak summer to avoid leaf scorch, or move it back slightly if leaves start to pale or brown at the edges.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
