  •   Gasteria bicolor f. variegata, also called Variegated Lawyer's Tongue, is a rare succulent native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. It grows in the shade of larger shrubs and rocky crevices in the wild, making it naturally adapted to lower light levels than most other succulents.

The plant produces thick, tongue-shaped leaves that grow in a rosette or stacked pattern. The vertical streaks of creamy white or pale yellow run across a deep forest-green base. The leaves are fleshy and built to store water, giving the plant a compact, sculptural form.

Gasteria Bicolor Variegata flowers in late winter or spring, producing pendulum-shaped blooms that are curved and swollen at the base, appearing in shades of pink or reddish-pink. The name Gasteria comes from the Greek word "gaster," meaning stomach, a reference to these distinctive flower forms. The blooms emerge on long stalks.

It grows slowly and pairs well with other low-light succulents in indoor collections or tabletop arrangements. The variegation can fade in very dim conditions, so a spot with indirect light keeps the colors crisp. Propagation is simple using leaf cuttings or offsets that form around the base.

  •   Gasteria bicolor f. variegata grows well in partial shade to bright indirect light; avoid harsh afternoon sun that scorches the variegated patches.

Water it using the soak and dry method, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings; reduce frequency in winter.

Gasteria Bicolor Variegata grows well in well-draining cactus or succulent soil amended with perlite, pumice, or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 50°F and 75°F and dislikes prolonged cold below 40°F.

Gasteria Bicolor Variegata is a slow-growing succulent; fertilize lightly during spring and summer with diluted succulent fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11 and tolerates frost down to approximately 20°F. It grows outdoors year-round in southern Florida, southern California, southern Texas, Hawaii, and similar warm regions, while gardeners in cooler zones grow it as an indoor plant.
  • Q: How often should I water Gasteria bicolor f. variegata?
A: During the growing season, allow soil to dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot. In winter, reduce watering frequency significantly.

Q: Will the variegation stay vibrant indoors?
A: Gasteria bicolor f. variegata keeps its white and yellow streaks best in bright indirect light. In very dim rooms, the variegation fades and the leaves become solid green over time.

Q: Can Gasteria Bicolor Variegata survive on a shelf away from windows?
A: It tolerates lower light better than most succulents, though leaves will eventually lose their variegation and stretch toward available light. A shelf within 3-4 feet of a window works better than a dark corner.

Q: Is it safe for cats and dogs?
A: Gasteria Bicolor Variegata is non-toxic and safe for pets if chewed or ingested, though the fleshy leaves may cause mild digestive upset if eaten in large amounts.

Q: How fast does Gasteria Bicolor Variegata grow?
A: It adds only a few new leaves per year under good conditions, making it suited for indoor spaces where slow growth is preferred.

Q: Can I propagate this plant at home?
A: Gasteria Bicolor Variegata propagates easily from individual leaf cuttings or the small offsets that cluster around the base; allow cuttings to callus for 2-3 days before planting in dry soil.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
