  •   Gasteraloe beguinii, also called Lizard Tail, is an intergeneric hybrid succulent cross between Gasteria and Aloe, two succulent genera native to southern Africa. It produces a compact dark green rosette with distinctive white tubercles along the leaf surfaces, and it remains one of the rarer finds in the succulent world.

The leaves are long, tapering, and tongue-shaped, arranged in a tight rosette that stays low and dense. Each leaf is deep green and covered in raised white spots or tubercles that run in irregular rows across the surface. The texture is firm and waxy, and the leaf tips end in a short, soft point.

Lizard Tail can produce tubular coral-to-orange flowers on a slender upright stalk, typically in late winter or spring. A drop in nighttime temperature encourages blooming. It stays in a slow, contained shape year-round regardless of whether it flowers.

Rotate it every few weeks so each side receives equal light and the rosette stays symmetrical. You can move it outside in summer, but it needs cover from rain to prevent root rot. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, though it handles the dry warm air that central heating produces. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and this plant is pet friendly. Lizard Tail is a genuine rare succulent, and its slow growth and compact size make it well suited to desks, shelves, and small indoor spaces.

  •   Gasteraloe beguinii grows well in bright indirect light and tolerates medium light, including office LED setups.

Water it every 10-14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out fully between waterings.

Lizard Tail does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix to prevent moisture from sitting at the roots.

It prefers temperatures between 60-80°F and should stay above 50°F, away from cold drafts or heat vents.

Lizard Tail is a slow-growing succulent; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, tolerating minimum temperatures down to around 25-28°F briefly. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, and South Carolina. It can stay outside through autumn in those regions before nighttime temperatures push below 50°F.
  • Q: Is Gasteraloe beguinii safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How much light does this plant need indoors?
A: Gasteraloe beguinii does well a few feet back from an east or west-facing window. A south-facing window can scorch the leaf tips, so keep a sheer curtain between it and direct afternoon sun.

Q: Can Lizard Tail survive if I go on a trip?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without water without any issue.

Q: How fast does this plant grow?
A: Lizard Tail is a slow grower, typically adding just a few new leaves per season, so the compact rosette stays manageable for years.

Q: Does Lizard Tail need to go outside to bloom?
A: It does not need to go outside, but a drop in nighttime temperature indoors, around 10°F cooler than daytime, encourages it to send up a flower stalk.

Q: Is this a rare plant?
A: Yes, Lizard Tail is considered a rare succulent and is not commonly found in mainstream garden centers.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
