  •   Crassula pyramidalis 'Buddha's Temple', also called Buddha's Temple, is a rare succulent in the Crassulaceae family native to the rocky, arid regions of South Africa. It evolved in harsh, well-draining soils with intense sun and minimal rainfall, making it exceptionally adapted to drought conditions.

The plant's most distinctive feature is its tightly stacked, square-edged leaves that spiral upward in a perfect geometric column, resembling a miniature pagoda rising from the soil. The dense, fleshy leaves are green with slightly silvery surfaces, and the upright, clumping habit means mature plants form a cluster of towers with naturally varying heights. Each column grows independently, creating a layered, sculptural appearance from any angle.

Small, tightly clustered flowers in white to pale pink appear at the tips of mature columns, though blooming is infrequent. A temperature drop at night encourages flowering. It quietly releases oxygen after dark.

Position it on a sunny windowsill, bright office desk under LED lights, or a sheltered summer patio, though it must be protected from rain and brought indoors before frost arrives. The plant is sensitive to frequent moving, so rotate the pot periodically for even growth rather than relocating it once established. Keep it away from heating and air conditioning vents, and place it on a high shelf out of reach of pets and children, as ingestion is harmful. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

  •   Crassula pyramidalis 'Buddha's Temple' grows well in bright indirect light to partial or full sun, though it may scorch in intense south-facing windows.

Water it thoroughly every 10-14 days during spring and summer, reducing to once a month in winter and always letting the soil dry completely between waterings.

Crassula 'Buddha's Temple' does best in a gritty, fast-draining succulent and cactus mix amended with extra perlite.

It prefers temperatures between 60-80°F and is frost-tender, requiring protection below 40°F.

Crassula 'Buddha's Temple' is a slow grower that needs only a light, diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring and once in summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, tolerating temperatures down to about 25-30°F with some protection. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and along the mild Oregon coast. Parts of New Mexico, Arkansas, and coastal North Carolina also fall within zone 9, making outdoor cultivation possible there as well.
  • Q: How often should I water Crassula pyramidalis 'Buddha's Temple'?
A: Cut back to once monthly in winter, always allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings to prevent rot. During active growth, water less frequently than typical houseplants.

Q: Is this plant safe for pets?
A: No, Crassula pyramidalis 'Buddha's Temple' is harmful if ingested by pets or small children and should be placed on a high shelf well out of their reach. Contact a vet immediately if a pet chews on it.

Q: Can Crassula 'Buddha's Temple' survive being away from home for a week or more?
A: Yes, it tolerates extended periods between waterings without damage.

Q: How much light does it need indoors?
A: Crassula 'Buddha's Temple' prefers east or west-facing windows where intense afternoon sun cannot scorch the leaves. Office LED lighting also supports growth, though it is less vigorous than natural light.

Q: What is the best way to propagate Buddha'S Temple?
A: Gently separate offset columns from the base of a mature clump and let the cut end callous for a day or two before potting. Leaf cuttings are possible but much slower with this stacked leaf variety.

Q: Why is Buddha'S Temple so hard to find?
A: It grows slowly and takes years to develop its full sculptural form, making large specimens genuinely uncommon in the plant trade.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
