  •   Aloe Peglerae is a rare, endangered succulent native to the rocky quartzite hillsides of the Magaliesberg mountain range in South Africa's North West Province. This drought-tolerant aloe belongs to the Asphodelaceae family and grows naturally on harsh, well-drained slopes where rainfall is sparse and soils are lean. Also called the fez aloe or turk's cap aloe, it is a slow-growing succulent with serious appeal for collectors seeking rare South African plants.

It forms a compact blue-grey rosette with thick, fleshy leaves that curve inward at the tips, creating a globe-like silhouette. The powdery glaucous coating on the foliage deepens in color under bright light, while reddish-brown marginal teeth line each leaf edge. Aloe Peglerae stays relatively small and tight.

It produces a tall flower spike topped with tubular coral-to-red blooms in winter to early spring, typically flowering when exposed to cooler night temperatures. Moving it to a cooler location in autumn can encourage this flower display. The blooms produce pollen and may be a consideration for allergy-sensitive households.

Rotate Aloe Peglerae regularly for an even, symmetrical rosette development. Move it outside in summer to soak up natural light, but provide cover from rain since wet conditions cause rot. Keep it away from air conditioning or heater vents, and place it on a high shelf out of reach of cats and dogs, as the sap can cause skin and paw irritation. It propagates through offsets or pups that form at the base of a mature plant.

  •   Aloe Peglerae grows well in bright indirect light to partial or full sun, with some protection from harsh south-facing window scorch.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings, roughly every 2-3 weeks indoors during the growing season.

Aloe Peglerae does best in a gritty, fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with extra perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 50-85°F and should be protected from frost, as it is not cold hardy below 30°F.

Aloe Peglerae is a slow-growing aloe that needs only light feeding once in spring with a diluted, low-nitrogen succulent fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9-11, where temperatures rarely dip below 20-25°F for extended periods. It grows outdoors year-round across much of California, Arizona, Texas, Nevada, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Coastal areas of Oregon and sheltered microclimates in New Mexico and North Carolina's warmest zones can also support it with minimal winter protection.
  • Q: How often should I water Aloe Peglerae?
A: Every 2-3 weeks indoors during the growing season, letting soil dry completely between waterings. Cut back to once a month or less in winter.

Q: Is this plant safe for pets?
A: No. Aloe Peglerae sap can cause skin and paw irritation in cats and dogs. Keep it on a high shelf well out of reach of pets and small children.

Q: Why are the leaves on Aloe Peglerae turning yellow?
A: Overwatering or poor drainage causes yellowing in most cases. Check that soil is fully dry before watering again, and ensure your pot has drainage holes. Too little light can also trigger yellowing over time.

Q: How do I propagate this plant?
A: Aloe Peglerae propagates through offsets or pups that form at the base of mature plants. Gently separate a pup with its roots intact and pot it into dry, gritty succulent mix, waiting a few days before the first watering.

Q: How big does Aloe Peglerae get?
A: It typically reaches 8-12 inches in diameter at maturity. Its clumping habit means it may eventually produce a small cluster of rosettes over many years.

Q: Can this plant handle neglect?
A: Aloe Peglerae signals thirst through slight wilting or leaf softening. You can leave it up to ten days without water during the growing season.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
