  •   Aloe 'Doran Black' is a rare aloe hybrid in the Asphodelaceae family, developed through selective breeding to produce unusually dark, mosaic-patterned foliage unlike most aloes found in cultivation. It forms a compact rosette that stays manageable indoors while carrying the drought-tolerant genetics of its aloe lineage.

The leaves are thick and fleshy, tapering to a point, and arranged in a tight rosette close to the soil. The surface is deep green to near-black with pale mosaic markings that run across each leaf in irregular bands. Leaf edges carry small, soft teeth, and under bright light the foliage shifts toward copper and dark burgundy-red tones. Aloe Doran Black stays compact, typically reaching around 6 to 8 inches across at maturity.

When Aloe Doran Black blooms, it sends up a slender stalk with tubular flowers that are typically orange to red. Blooming tends to occur in late winter to spring, and a nighttime temperature drop encourages flowering. It produces offsets, or pups, at the base, which can be separated and potted as new plants.

Move it outside for the summer months, but keep it covered from rain since waterlogged roots are a common problem for this low-water succulent. In a south-facing window it can scorch, so bright indirect light or a few hours of morning direct sun suits it best indoors. Aloe Doran Black releases oxygen at night, and you can leave it up to ten days without water. Cats, dogs, and other pets should be kept away from it, as the sap causes skin and paw irritation and the plant should not be nibbled or eaten. Keep it on a high shelf or out of reach of small children as well.

  •   Aloe 'Doran Black' grows well in bright indirect light or a few hours of direct morning sun daily.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

Aloe Doran Black does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix that prevents moisture from sitting at the roots.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 85°F and should be kept away from air conditioning vents and heating units.

Aloe Doran Black is a slow to moderate grower; feed it once in spring and once in summer with a diluted balanced fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, tolerating outdoor temperatures down to around 25°F to 30°F for brief periods. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and along the Gulf Coast states. In cooler regions it can spend summers outside before being brought back indoors before the first frost.
  • Q: Is Aloe 'Doran Black' safe for pets and children?
A: The sap causes skin and paw irritation, so cats, dogs, and other pets should not be left to nibble or eat it. Keep it on a high shelf away from small children as well.

Q: How do I know if I'm overwatering my aloe?
A: Aloe 'Doran Black' will show soft, mushy leaves at the base and may develop brown, translucent spots when it has had too much water. Root rot follows quickly in soil that stays wet.

Q: Can Aloe Doran Black survive while I'm away on a trip?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without water without any issue.

Q: Which window direction works best indoors?
A: Aloe Doran Black does well in an east or west-facing window. A south-facing window in full summer sun can scorch the leaves, so move it back a foot or two if the tips begin to look bleached or brown.

Q: Does Aloe Doran Black produce pups I can propagate?
A: It produces offsets at the base of the rosette. Wait until a pup is at least one-third the size of the mother plant, then separate it with a clean knife and let the cut end dry for a day before potting it in dry cactus mix.

Q: Can I move my aloe outdoors in summer?
A: Aloe Doran Black handles outdoor summer conditions well in warm climates, but keep it sheltered from rain or prolonged wet weather to protect the roots.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
