  •   Aloe Dichotoma, also called the quiver tree or kokerboom, is a rare tree aloe native to the arid regions of southern Africa, particularly Namibia and the Northern Cape. It grows naturally in rocky desert terrain and is among the most iconic architectural succulents available to collectors. This drought-tolerant succulent develops a sculptural presence that stands apart in any garden or bright indoor space.

It grows a thick, fibrous trunk that forks dramatically into symmetrical branches, each topped with a compact rosette of blue-green, finely toothed leaves. The bark has a distinctive powdery, yellowish-gold coating that peels in papery layers. Its upright, tree-like form and slow growth rate make it one of the most recognizable succulents among plant collectors.

It produces clusters of vivid yellow tubular flowers in late winter to early spring, with established plants blooming once mature. The blooms attract pollinators and release pollen, so those with sensitivities should take note. A night temperature drop triggers blooming, making cool winter nights essential to the flowering cycle.

Move it outside in summer to soak up direct sun, then bring it back before frost arrives. Because it develops deep roots, a heavy, stable pot is essential indoors. The sap can cause skin and paw irritation, so keep it away from cats, dogs, and small children.

  •   Aloe Dichotoma grows well in full sun to bright indirect light and does best in a south or west-facing position.

Water it deeply every 2 to 3 weeks during the growing season, cutting back to once a month or less in winter.

Aloe Dichotoma grows well in a gritty, fast-draining succulent or cactus mix blended with coarse perlite or pumice.

It prefers temperatures between 50 and 95°F and survives brief freezes to around 25°F with protection.

Aloe Dichotoma is a slow-growing succulent that benefits from a balanced, diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, surviving extended cold only in southern climates. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, and Mississippi. Coastal areas of Oregon, warmer pockets of New Mexico, and parts of coastal Virginia may also support it with winter cover.
  • Q: How often should I water Aloe Dichotoma?
A: Every 2 to 3 weeks in the growing season. Let the soil dry completely between waterings to prevent root rot, then reduce frequency to monthly or less in winter.

Q: Is it safe around pets?
A: Aloe Dichotoma's sap causes skin and paw irritation if ingested or chewed. Keep it on a high shelf or in a space pets cannot access.

Q: Which window direction works best for Aloe Dichotoma?
A: South or west-facing windows provide the most intense light. In very hot climates, rotate it occasionally to prevent leaf scorch from magnified window heat.

Q: How fast does it grow?
A: Aloe Dichotoma adds only a few inches per year, making it a slow-growing succulent suitable for those with patience.

Q: Can Aloe Dichotoma survive a long trip without watering?
A: You can leave it up to ten days without water.

Q: What outdoor zones support year-round growing for it?
A: Aloe Dichotoma grows outdoors in USDA zones 9 to 11, which include most of the southern and southwestern United States. In cooler zones, grow it in a container and move it outside for summer only.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
