  •   Aloe aristata 'Lunar Eclipse' is a compact rosette succulent in the Asphodelaceae family, native to the grasslands and rocky slopes of South Africa and Lesotho. It grows as a dense, low-growing rosette and belongs to a group sometimes called lace aloe for the fine white teeth along its leaf margins.

The leaves are fleshy, lance-shaped, and deep green, covered in raised white spots and soft white spines that run along the edges and leaf surface. Each rosette stays compact, typically reaching four to six inches across, with leaves that arch inward slightly at the tips. The white-spotted patterning across the dark green surface gives this indoor succulent a texture that sets it apart from smooth-leaved aloes.

Aloe aristata produces tall, slender flower spikes in late spring to early summer, bearing tubular orange-red blooms that attract hummingbirds and pollinators. It generally blooms once a year, and a slight drop in nighttime temperatures can help trigger the flowering cycle. Between bloom seasons, it keeps its dense rosette form year-round.

Rotate the pot every few weeks so each side of the rosette receives even light. You can move it outside for the summer months, but cover it or bring it in during heavy rain. Keep it away from direct airflow from air conditioners and heaters, though it handles warm, dry indoor air without trouble. Aloe aristata purifies indoor air, filters formaldehyde and other toxins, and releases oxygen at night. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long. Cats, dogs, and small children should not have access to the leaves, and the sap can cause skin and paw irritation on contact. Place it on a high shelf or out of reach entirely.

  •   Aloe aristata 'Lunar Eclipse' grows well in bright indirect light, such as near an east- or west-facing window.

Water it every ten to fourteen days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

Aloe aristata does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix, with added perlite for extra drainage.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F and should be kept away from cold drafts below 40°F.

Aloe aristata is a slow-growing succulent; feed it once in spring and once in summer with a diluted succulent fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, tolerating brief dips down to around 25°F to 28°F before frost damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Hawaii, and parts of Oregon and Washington. It overwinters outside in those zones and can stay in the garden through autumn before nighttime temperatures drop hard.
  • Q: How much light does Aloe aristata 'Lunar Eclipse' need indoors?
A: An east- or west-facing window works well. South-facing windows can scorch the leaf tips, so keep it a foot or two back from the glass if that is your only option.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Aloe aristata 'Lunar Eclipse' wilts slightly and the leaves feel a little softer when the soil has been dry for too long. Check the top inch or two of soil before watering.

Q: Is Aloe aristata safe around pets and kids?
A: Cats and dogs should not nibble or eat the plant, and the sap can irritate skin and paws on contact. Keep it on a high shelf away from small children as well.

Q: How big does this succulent get?
A: Aloe aristata stays compact, typically four to six inches across at maturity. It offsets slowly over time, gradually filling the pot with smaller rosettes around the main plant.

Q: Can Aloe aristata go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outdoors once nighttime temperatures stay reliably above 50°F. Cover it or bring it under shelter during rainy periods, as sitting in wet soil outdoors can cause root rot.

Q: How fast does this plant grow?
A: Aloe aristata is a slow grower, so do not expect it to outgrow its pot quickly. One light feeding in spring and one in summer is enough to support steady growth through the active season.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
