  •   Aeonium Dinner Plate is a rare flat rosette succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the Canary Islands. It grows on rocky slopes and cliffs where bright light and dry conditions dominate, and it grows well in USDA zones 9 through 11.

The plant earns its name from its remarkably wide, saucer-like rosette that lies nearly flat, resembling a dinner plate in both shape and scale. Dense layers of fleshy, spoon-shaped green leaves radiate outward in precise geometric symmetry. It grows in a clumping habit, meaning one plant gradually develops into a sculptural cluster of multiple flat rosettes stacked at the base, eventually reaching rosettes up to 12 inches or more across.

When mature, it produces a cone-shaped flower spike from the center of a rosette, bearing small pale yellow blooms. A cool nighttime temperature drop triggers flowering, so outdoor growers in mild climates have the best chance of seeing flowers. After blooming, that individual rosette completes its life cycle, but the surrounding offsets in the clump continue to grow.

Move it outside for summer in cooler climates, keeping it sheltered from heavy rain to prevent rot and bringing it indoors before hard frost arrives. Aeonium Dinner Plate is non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for households with curious animals.

  •   Aeonium Dinner Plate grows well in bright indirect light to partial sun indoors and tolerates full sun outdoors in mild climates.

Water it thoroughly every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

Aeonium Dinner Plate does best in a fast-draining cactus and perlite mix to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 75°F and should be protected from frost below 25°F.

Aeonium Dinner Plate is a slow to moderate grower and benefits from diluted balanced fertilizer once monthly in spring and fall.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F but preferring frost-free winters. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Hawaii, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nevada. It can also be grown outside through much of the year with minimal protection along the Oregon coast and in protected pockets of New Mexico and Arkansas.
  • Q: How often should I water Aeonium Dinner Plate?
A: During the growing season, water when the top inch of soil feels dry. In summer dormancy, water less frequently and allow longer drying periods between waterings.

Q: Is it safe around cats and dogs?
A: Aeonium Dinner Plate is non-toxic to both cats and dogs, making it safe for pet-loving households.

Q: What light placement works best indoors for Aeonium Dinner Plate?
A: Place it in a bright spot with indirect light or gentle morning sun, and rotate it regularly for even, balanced rosette growth. Avoid intense south-facing window sun, which can scorch the leaves.

Q: How large does it get?
A: Aeonium Dinner Plate produces rosettes up to 12 inches or more across. Its clumping habit means the overall plant gradually widens as new rosettes develop around the base.

Q: Can Aeonium Dinner Plate grow outside?
A: It grows outdoors in zones 9 through 11 and can move outside for summer in cooler climates. Keep it sheltered from heavy rain and bring it indoors before temperatures drop near freezing.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: The rosette will soften or feel less firm when thirsty. Within hours of watering, it plumps back to full firmness.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
