  •   Sempervivum 'Ohu Om Ohu' is a rare sempervivum cultivar from the Crassulaceae family, belonging to the hardy succulents native to mountainous regions of Europe and Asia Minor. These alpine succulents evolved to survive rocky, well-drained terrain with extreme temperature swings, making this cold hardy plant exceptionally tough and adaptable to harsh growing conditions.

Ohu Om Ohu forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves in lime green and burgundy-red tones that deepen in cooler temperatures and bright sun. As a clustering succulent, it spreads by producing offsets around the mother rosette, creating a carpet-like mat over time. The compact rosettes have a jewel-like texture that sets this collector sempervivum variety apart in any collection.

Like all hens and chicks, individual rosettes bloom once and then die back, while the surrounding offsets carry on the colony. A noticeable drop in nighttime temperatures triggers the bloom cycle, so plants kept consistently warm may not flower as readily. The chicks left behind ensure it keeps growing long after any single rosette completes its life cycle.

This alpine succulent excels in rock gardens, alpine troughs, containers, and balcony planters, handling wind and light rain without trouble. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Ohu Om Ohu is cat friendly and dog friendly, so no concerns about curious pets investigating the rosettes.

  •   Sempervivum 'Ohu Om Ohu' grows well in partial to full sun, getting at least four to six hours of direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, roughly every 10 to 14 days.

Ohu Om Ohu does best in gritty, fast-draining cactus soil blended with perlite or coarse sand at a 1:1 ratio.

It handles temperatures from -30°F up to around 90°F, showing exceptional frost tolerance across a wide temperature range.

Ohu Om Ohu is a moderate, steady spreader that needs fertilizer only once in spring, using a diluted balanced succulent feed.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8, tolerating frost down to approximately -40°F in the coldest zones. It grows outdoors in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. It also grows outdoors year-round in inland regions of Oregon and Washington, as well as Idaho, Utah, Nevada at elevation, and the northern reaches of California and Arizona.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum 'Ohu Om Ohu' pet friendly?
A: It is safe to keep around cats and dogs.

Q: What are the first signs that the soil is too wet?
A: Sempervivum 'Ohu Om Ohu' begins to soften and blacken at the base when overwatered; err toward drier soil rather than moist.

A: It naturally produces offsets called chicks around the mother rosette, which you can detach and replant to create new plants.

Q: Can this type of plant survive on a balcony year-round?
A: Ohu Om Ohu handles balcony wind, light rain, and frost well, thriving outdoors through autumn and into cold months if drainage is excellent.

Q: Does Ohu Om Ohu require much fertilizer?
A: A single diluted dose of balanced succulent feed in spring supports steady offset production without additional feeding.

Q: What indoor conditions does this succulent require to keep its color intense?
A: Ohu Om Ohu needs bright, direct light indoors to develop full burgundy-red tones; a south or west-facing window works best.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
