  •   Sempervivum heuffelii 'Red Charm' is a cold hardy succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountain regions of southeastern Europe. It forms tight rosettes that cluster over time, growing naturally in rocky, well-drained terrain where harsh conditions are the norm. This drought tolerant alpine succulent is popular with collectors and garden enthusiasts.

Red Charm produces deep red to burgundy rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves that intensify in color under bright light. The leaves have a smooth, slightly waxy texture and form a compact, symmetrical rosette that spreads steadily through offsetting. One plant gradually becomes a colony with red rosettes for troughs, rock gardens, and containers.

It is exceptionally drought tolerant, shrugging off dry spells that would stress most plants. Red Charm handles balcony wind and rain with ease, and move it outside in summer where sun and airflow bring out its best red tones. For autumn growing, this outdoor succulent holds its own as temperatures drop.

Red Charm is suited to rock gardens, alpine troughs, green roofs, and container arrangements where drainage is good and space invites spreading. It tolerates dry heated air indoors, handles drafty spots, and you can leave it up to ten days without water. This plant is cat and dog friendly, so households with curious pets can enjoy it without concern. Individual rosettes typically reach two to four inches across and spread into wider clusters over time through natural offsetting.

  •   Sempervivum heuffelii 'Red Charm' grows well in partial sun to full sun, receiving at least four to six hours of direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, roughly every two to three weeks.

Red Charm does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with coarse perlite or pumice at a 1:1 ratio.

It tolerates a wide temperature range from around 25°F up to 90°F, making it frost tolerant for most climates.

Red Charm grows at a moderate pace and rarely needs fertilizer, though a diluted balanced feed once in spring gives it a seasonal boost.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9, tolerating frost down to around negative 30°F at the lower end of that range. It grows outdoors year-round in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. It grows in the Pacific Northwest including Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
