  •   Sempervivum 'Bronco' is a cold hardy succulent from the Crassulaceae family, also called hens and chicks. Native to the mountains of Europe and parts of Asia, it evolved in harsh alpine conditions where it still grows today. It handles environments that defeat most other succulents.

'Bronco' forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves that shift from green to deep burgundy-bronze depending on sun exposure and season. Individual rosettes reach two to four inches across, with the plant clustering and spreading outward as the mother rosette produces offsets. The color-changing rosette quality intensifies in cooler temperatures, developing deeper purple tones as fall approaches.

'Bronco' flowers in its second or third year, sending up tall spikes with star-shaped blooms. The plant tolerates wind and rain on a balcony, handles drafty spots without fuss, and can move outside for summer or stay outdoors well into autumn. It survives heated indoor air and dry conditions without issue.

You can leave it up to ten days without water. Plant 'Bronco' in rock gardens, containers, green roofs, or borders where its clustering rosettes can spread freely. Propagate by separating the small chick offsets from the mother rosette and replanting in well-draining soil. It is pet friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs, so placement around the home carries no concern.

  •   Sempervivum 'Bronco' grows well in partial sun to full sun, needing at least four to six hours of direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings, roughly every two to three weeks indoors.

'Bronco' does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with extra perlite or coarse sand.

It handles a wide temperature range from around 25°F up to 85°F, with strong frost tolerance once established.

'Bronco' grows at a moderate pace and needs little to no fertilizer, perhaps one light feeding in spring if desired.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8, tolerating winter temperatures as low as -40°F in the coldest zones. It grows outdoors across Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Arkansas, and Utah. It performs well in cooler microclimates or higher elevations within California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and parts of the Southeast.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
