  •   Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Cebenese' is a cold hardy cobweb houseleek from the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountain regions of Europe including the Alps and Pyrenees. It evolved to grow in rocky, nutrient-poor soils at high elevations, surviving in some of the harshest climates on the planet.

The plant is recognizable by the web of white filaments stretched across its tight, upright rosettes, mimicking a spider web. Foliage is forest green tipped with fine white threading. The rosettes stay compact and structured, giving it a form that stands out in containers, rock gardens, and windowsill displays.

'Cebenese' is monocarpic, meaning each rosette blooms once and then gives way to the surrounding offsets. This keeps the clump looking fresh and full over many seasons as daughter rosettes continuously fill in the space left behind.

It grows slowly and steadily, offsetting to spread outward in a tidy, narrow colony rather than sprawling aggressively. You can leave it up to ten days without water. The plant handles balcony wind and rain, grows well outdoors through autumn and summer, and is completely pet friendly. Move it outside in summer for the best color and most compact rosette form. Separate the small offset rosettes, called chicks, from the mother plant to propagate.

  •   Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Cebenese' grows well in bright indirect light but appreciates direct outdoor sun for best color and compact form.

Water it every 10-14 days during the growing season and just once a month or less in winter, letting soil dry completely between waterings.

'Cebenese' does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with 50 percent perlite or coarse sand.

It handles temperatures from -30°F to 80°F with ease, remaining cold hardy through harsh winters in most climates.

'Cebenese' is a slow grower that rarely needs pruning and requires fertilizer only once in spring at half strength.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4-9, surviving frost down to around -30°F. It grows outdoors throughout Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Arkansas. It also thrives in zones 8-9 including Texas, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, and California with good drainage and afternoon shade during peak summer heat.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Cebenese' pet friendly?
A: Yes. It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What window placement works best indoors?
A: Sempervivum arachnoideum 'Cebenese' needs bright indirect light near a window. Direct outdoor sun produces deeper red and burgundy tones in the foliage and keeps rosettes tightly formed.

Q: How does 'Cebenese' spread over time?
A: It offsets reliably, producing small daughter rosettes that fill in around the mother plant to form a tidy, narrow colony rather than a sprawling cluster.

    Q: What causes yellow leaves?
A: 'Cebenese' develops yellow leaves most commonly from overwatering or waterlogged soil. Improve drainage and reduce watering frequency to restore health.

Q: Can 'Cebenese' survive without water on short trips?
A: You can leave it unwatered for up to ten days without damage.

Q: How large do the rosettes grow?
A: Individual 'Cebenese' rosettes typically reach 1-2 inches across, slowly spreading outward as it produces offsets over many seasons.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
