The Philodendron 'Red Heart' is a cultivated hybrid of the Philodendron genus. As a hybrid, 'Red Heart' was developed in cultivation. However, its parent species originate in the tropical and subtropical rainforests of Central and South America. t is a climbing or vining variety, meaning it will naturally trail from a pot or use aerial roots to climb a support, such as a moss pole or trellis.
The most unique and prized characteristic of the 'Red Heart' is the remarkable color transformation of its leaves as they mature. The young leaves emerge in a truly spectacular, bright crimson red or deep burgundy color. This intense, fiery hue is what gives the plant its name. As the leaves expand and harden, the rich red color gradually fades and transitions, eventually settling into a glossy, dark green-to-bronze shade.
