  •   Haworthia emelyae var. Major is a rare drought-tolerant succulent native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it grows among rocky, semi-arid terrain with sharp drainage and dappled shade. A member of the Asphodelaceae family, it has evolved to grow on minimal water, making it an outstanding addition to any succulent collection or bedroom plant setup.

Haworthia Major forms a bold, symmetrical rosette of thick, triangular leaves marked with intricate white windowed patches and fine reticulated patterning across their surfaces. Larger than typical emelyae forms, it gradually develops into a clumping habit by producing offsets that expand the display over time. The translucent leaf windows glow in bright indirect light, revealing the plant's internal structure.

It produces slender, tubular flowers on tall, wiry stalks, typically appearing in late spring to summer as pale pinkish-white blooms. A slight nighttime temperature drop in autumn can encourage flowering, so placing it near a cooler window during that season may trigger blooming.

Haworthia Major is rare in cultivation, with a deep root system that appreciates a heavy pot with good depth for proper anchoring. Keeping it sheltered from rain prevents rot in its fleshy leaves. It releases oxygen at night and is pet-friendly for cats and dogs.

  •   Haworthia emelyae var. Major grows well in medium to bright indirect light or partial sun, but scorches in harsh south-facing windows.

Water it every 2-3 weeks during the growing season and reduce to once a month or less in winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

Haworthia Major does best in a gritty, well-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with perlite or coarse pumice at a 50/50 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 65-85°F and should be protected from exposure below 40°F.

Haworthia Major is a slow grower that benefits from a diluted balanced fertilizer applied once or twice during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-11, tolerating minimum temperatures around 30-35°F only briefly and faring best in frost-free climates. It grows outdoors year-round in southern Florida, coastal and southern California, Hawaii, southern Texas, and southern Arizona. It also grows well in parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts.
  • Q: How often should I water Haworthia emelyae var. Major?
A: Water every 2-3 weeks in summer and once a month or less in winter, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.

Q: Is this succulent safe for pets?
A: Haworthia emelyae var. Major is non-toxic and completely safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What light does Haworthia Major need?
A: It grows well in bright indirect light or partial sun; avoid direct south-facing exposure, which will scorch the leaves.

Q: How big does it get?
A: Haworthia Major develops rosettes that reach 4-6 inches across at maturity and slowly clumps outward by producing offsets over several years.

Q: How do I propagate Haworthia Major?
A: Divide the offsets that form around the base of the mother plant, allowing each offset to callous for a day or two before potting into well-draining gritty mix.

    Q: Is this plant rare?
A: Haworthia Major is rare in cultivation and not commonly found in garden centers, with distinctive white windowed leaves and a bold rosette form.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
