  •   Echeveria nodulosa, also called Painted Echeveria, is a rosette-forming succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to Mexico. It grows naturally in rocky, semi-arid terrain where dry conditions and bright sun shape its compact, colorful form.

The rosettes are made up of olive-green leaves with deep red or burgundy-red markings running along the margins and midrib on both surfaces. Each leaf is slightly pointed and waxy, with a flat to slightly concave face that holds the contrasting color pattern clearly visible from above. The stems can branch over time, with offsets forming at the base and along the stem.

Echeveria nodulosa produces tall, arching flower stalks in summer, typically bearing coral to red tubular flowers with yellow tips. It needs a drop in nighttime temperatures to trigger blooming, and a period outdoors or near a cool window in autumn can help set that cycle. The flowers attract pollinators and can produce pollen, so take note if household members have plant allergies.

Rotate it every week or two so all sides of the rosette receive even light and the growth stays symmetrical. You can move it outside for summer, but place it under a covered area or awning since the leaves are sensitive to sitting water from rain. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as the direct airflow dries the leaf tips and stresses the plant. This plant is pet friendly, and you can leave it up to ten days without water, which suits households with irregular schedules.

  •   Echeveria nodulosa grows best in bright direct to indirect light, at least four to six hours per day.

Water it every ten to fourteen days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between sessions.

Echeveria nodulosa does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix, ideally cut with perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should not drop below 40°F for extended periods.

Echeveria nodulosa grows slowly, reaching about six to eight inches across at maturity, and benefits from a diluted balanced fertilizer once a month in spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F to 28°F before frost damage occurs. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and along the Gulf Coast. It can stay outdoors through autumn in zone 9b regions but needs to come inside before hard frost arrives.
  • Q: Can Echeveria nodulosa tolerate a south-facing window?
A: South-facing windows can cause leaf scorch, especially in summer. A few feet back from a south window, or a bright east or west window, works better.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Echeveria nodulosa will show slightly soft or lightly wilted leaves when it has gone too long without water. The leaves firm back up within a day or two after watering.

Q: Is Echeveria nodulosa safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet friendly.

Q: What happens if I overwater it?
A: Echeveria nodulosa is susceptible to root rot if the soil stays wet too long. Yellow, mushy leaves at the base are the first sign that watering has been too frequent.

Q: Does Echeveria nodulosa need to go outside to bloom?
A: Not necessarily outside, but it does need a drop in nighttime temperatures to trigger blooming. A cool windowsill in autumn or a short stint outdoors before the first frost can help.

Q: How big does this succulent get?
A: Echeveria nodulosa typically reaches about six to eight inches across and can gain a few inches in height as the stem branches over several years.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
