  •   Echeveria affinis Black Knight is a rare dark succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the semi-arid highlands of Mexico. Like all Echeveria species, it evolved in rocky, well-draining terrain with bright sun and seasonal dry spells.

'Black Knight' forms tight, dramatic rosettes of long, pointed leaves in one of the deepest near-black hues in the Echeveria genus. Each rosette typically reaches 3 to 6 inches in diameter and stays compact enough for windowsills and small shelves.

It produces upright flower stalks bearing small, vivid red blooms in late summer to autumn. A nighttime temperature drop triggers flowering, so placing it near a cool window in the evening encourages that response. It is pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Move it outside in summer to soak up full sun, then bring it back indoors before cold nights arrive and cover it from heavy rain. Rotate the pot regularly for even, symmetrical rosette growth. It is available in 2 inch and 4 inch sizes.

  •   Echeveria affinis Black Knight grows well in bright indirect light, partial sun, or full sun, though it may scorch in intense south-facing windows during peak summer.

Water it thoroughly every 10 to 14 days in summer, then reduce to once a month in winter, always letting soil dry completely between waterings.

'Black Knight' does best in a gritty, fast-draining cactus and succulent mix blended with perlite or coarse sand at roughly a 50/50 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 80 degrees F and should be protected from frost below 25 degrees F.

'Black Knight' is a slow to moderate grower that benefits from a light, diluted succulent fertilizer once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25 degrees F but preferring frost-free conditions year-round. It grows outdoors in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Nevada, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal areas of Oregon. It also grows well in parts of New Mexico, Arkansas, and the warmer pockets of North Carolina.
  • Q: How often should I water Echeveria affinis Black Knight?
A: Every 10 to 14 days in warm months with complete soil dryness between waterings. Reduce to once a month in winter.

Q: Is this plant toxic to pets?
A: No. Echeveria affinis Black Knight is non-toxic to cats and dogs and safe for pet households.

Q: Does 'Black Knight' need a lot of light?
A: At least 4 to 6 hours daily. South-facing windows in summer can cause leaf scorch, so east or west exposure works well, or use a sheer curtain to filter intense afternoon sun.

Q: How large does it get?
A: 'Black Knight' forms rosettes around 3 to 6 inches across and clusters slowly. It stays compact enough for small spaces and is available in 2 inch and 4 inch starter sizes.

Q: Can 'Black Knight' survive outdoors year-round?
A: Only in USDA zones 9–11 where frost rarely dips below 25 degrees F. Move it indoors in cooler climates before winter cold arrives.

Q: What does overwatering look like?
A: Leaves turn translucent or mushy, and the base may rot. Let soil dry out completely before watering again, and repot into fresh, dry soil if rot has started.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
