  •   String Of Turtles - Peperomia prostrata is a rare trailing peperomia native to the rainforests of Brazil, where it grows as a ground-hugging vine beneath the forest canopy. It is a member of the Piperaceae family and grows well with minimal attention.

The plant earns its name from tiny, round leaves patterned with silver and dark green markings that resemble turtle shells. Each leaf measures roughly half an inch across, strung along thin, thread-like vines that trail from hanging baskets or elevated shelves.

It occasionally produces tiny, slender flower spikes, though the blooms are modest and secondary to the foliage. The trailing vines continue lengthening over time in a humid, stable environment.

String Of Turtles grows well in terrariums and near kitchen moisture, where humidity mirrors its rainforest origins. It is sensitive to being moved frequently, so finding a stable location allows it to establish strong growth. This plant is pet friendly and safe around cats and dogs. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It grows under office LED lighting as long as the light remains consistent and reasonably bright. Avoid placing it near air conditioning or heating vents, as it is sensitive to dry, blowing air.

  •   String Of Turtles - Peperomia prostrata grows well in medium to bright indirect light and scorches easily in south-facing windows with intense direct sun.

Water it every 10-14 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.

String Of Turtles does best in a well-draining mix of peat or coco coir blended with perlite to prevent soggy roots.

It prefers temperatures between 65-80°F and cannot tolerate frost or prolonged cold below 50°F.

String Of Turtles is a slow-growing plant that benefits from diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10-12, where temperatures rarely dip below 30-35°F, and cannot survive frost outdoors. It grows outdoors in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and the southernmost tips of Texas and Arizona. It also grows outside in sheltered spots in Louisiana, coastal Georgia, southern South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and parts of Nevada and coastal Oregon. Most growers in cooler states enjoy it as an indoor or terrarium plant year-round.
  • Q: Is String Of Turtles - Peperomia prostrata pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: Why are the leaves starting to look soft and droopy?
A: String Of Turtles - Peperomia prostrata wilts when the soil dries out completely. Check the top inch of soil and water if it feels dry.

Q: What window placement works best for String Of Turtles?
A: Keep it away from south-facing windows where direct sun causes leaf scorch. A north or east-facing window with bright indirect light works well. Rotate the plant every few weeks to encourage even, balanced growth.

Q: How long do the vines grow?
A: String Of Turtles grows slowly over months and years, making it suitable for terrariums and compact hanging displays.

Q: How do I propagate String Of Turtles?
A: Take a short stem cutting with a few leaves and place it in moist soil or water until roots develop. High humidity speeds up rooting, so a terrarium or clear plastic cover works well.

Q: Can I grow it in low-light conditions?
A: String Of Turtles can adapt to growing under office LED lighting as long as the light is consistent and reasonably bright. Avoid placing it in dim corners or far from any light source.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
