    •   String of Buttons - Crassula perforata is a succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to South Africa where it grows on rocky outcrops and dry slopes. Also called the pagoda plant, this drought-tolerant succulent is popular with both beginners and collectors for its low-maintenance nature and stacked foliage.

        The leaves are small, triangular, and blue-green, arranged in opposite pairs that spiral up each stem like a tiny pagoda tower. The leaf edges often flush pink or yellow when exposed to bright light, and the stems begin upright before eventually arching and trailing over time. It grows as both an upright and trailing plant, making it equally at home on a shelf or cascading from a hanging basket.

        In spring, it produces small clusters of pale yellow to white star-shaped flowers, typically after a cooler winter with noticeable temperature drops at night. The plant also purifies indoor air by filtering household toxins including formaldehyde.

        You can leave String of Buttons up to ten days without water. The slightly soft or lightly wrinkled leaves show when it needs a drink. Move it outside in summer to a bright, sheltered spot and bring it back inside before any frost.
