Commonly known as String of Watermelons (and occasionally String of Beads), this is a charming trailing succulent closely related to the String of Pearls. It features thick, teardrop-shaped leaves that are a soft purple-green. The "specialty" is in the details: each leaf is decorated with dark longitudinal stripes and translucent "windows" that look exactly like the rind of a tiny, miniature watermelon.
This trailing gem is native to Namibia and South Africa. In its natural habitat, it grows as a creeping groundcover, weaving through rocky soil. In the home, it is most celebrated as a "curtain" plant, cascading elegantly over the sides of hanging planters.
The flowers of the Senecio herreanus are small, white, and pom-pom-like, appearing on long, thin stalks. What makes them truly special is their clove-like fragrance. Unlike many succulents with scentless flowers, a blooming String of Watermelons can fill a small room with a light, spicy, and pleasant aroma.
Bright Indirect Light. It loves morning sun but needs protection from harsh afternoon rays, which can shrivel the "melons."
Well-draining cactus mix. A blend rich in pumice or perlite is best to ensure the trailing stems don't stay damp.
Moderate. Water when the soil is dry and the "watermelons" feel slightly soft to the touch. Avoid the "pearls" staying in standing water.
9 to 11. Best kept as an indoor houseplant in most climates.

Your plant will be carefully wrapped in a sturdy box. Most of the succulents will be shipped bare-root to ensure their safety. If you want to receive the plastic pot & soil, please leave a note in your order. When opening your package, some soil may be loose in the box. Plant orders are shipped within 3-5 days depending on the availability of the plant. We ship our plants Monday through Friday, all twelve months of the year! Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered
light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do
NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour
off any excess water after a few minutes.
The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot
area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended
periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
