  •   Ceropegia woodii String of Arrows is a trailing succulent native to the rocky hillsides and scrublands of South Africa. It belongs to the Apocynaceae family and grows with straightforward care requirements.

The leaves are narrow and arrow-shaped, clustering along trailing vines in silvery-green with deep green veining on the upper surface and burgundy-red undersides. Each leaf shows contrasting patterning that shifts in tone as light hits the plant from different angles. The stems cascade downward, suitable for hanging baskets or high shelves where the vines can spread without restriction.

Small, tubular lantern-like flowers appear along the vines during warmer months when nighttime temperatures drop slightly. Once it settles into a consistent light and stable temperature spot, avoid frequent moves. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

Rotate the pot a quarter turn every one to two weeks so all sides receive equal light and the vines stay full and balanced rather than reaching in one direction. It is pet friendly, though the sap can cause mild skin or paw irritation, so placement on a high shelf adds an extra precaution. It handles dry heated indoor air without issue, so it grows well in offices and living spaces with AC or heating systems as long as you keep it away from direct vents and drafts.

  •   Ceropegia woodii String of Arrows grows well in bright indirect light and grows under office LEDs, but scorches in direct south-facing windows.

Water it every ten to fourteen days during spring and summer, then cut back to once monthly in winter, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings.

String of Arrows does best in a fast-draining cactus or succulent mix blended with extra perlite to prevent root rot and keep roots healthy.

It prefers temperatures between 60 and 80°F, away from AC vents and heater drafts.

String of Arrows is a moderate grower that needs light feeding with diluted balanced fertilizer once monthly during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 through 11 and is not frost tolerant, struggling below around 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Nevada, and Alabama. It may also grow outside during mild seasons in Mississippi and the coastal zones of Oregon and parts of Washington state within zone 9 microclimates.
  • Q: Is Ceropegia woodii String of Arrows pet-friendly?
A: It is non-toxic to cats and dogs, though the sap can cause mild skin or paw irritation.

Q: What does overwatering look like?
A: Yellow leaves almost always mean the soil stayed too wet. Ceropegia woodii String of Arrows needs the soil to dry completely between waterings, and the pot must have adequate drainage holes.

Q: How do I propagate String of Arrows?
A: Snip a healthy vine segment with a few leaves, let it callous for a day or two, then place it in moist cactus mix or water until roots develop.

Q: Why should I rotate the pot?
A: String of Arrows grows toward the strongest light source. Rotating it every one to two weeks keeps the vines full and balanced instead of reaching in one direction.

Q: Can String of Arrows survive travel?
A: It handles being left alone for extended periods without water due to its succulent foliage, which stores moisture.

Q: What window placement works best?
A: Bright indirect light from an east or west window works well, or place it a few feet back from a south-facing window. String of Arrows can scorch if it sits too close to direct sun.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
