It forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with fleshy, pointed leaves that range from green to yellow or reddish tones depending on sun exposure. The clustering growth habit produces offsets that nestle around the mother rosette, creating a full, textured mat that stays compact and geometric. Individual rosettes typically reach 2 to 4 inches in diameter, staying low on rock gardens or balconies.
Bell-shaped flowers appear in summer on tall stalks rising from the center of a mature rosette. Since Sempervivum Allionii is monocarpic, individual rosettes bloom once and then decline, but surrounding offsets continue to fill in the cluster season after season, keeping the overall plant full and intact.
It handles balcony wind and rain without trouble. Move it outside in summer, staying outdoors comfortably into autumn. You can leave it up to ten days without water. Sempervivum Allionii is pet friendly and safe around cats and dogs, so display it anywhere indoors or out. Rock gardens, troughs, green roofs, and container arrangements where drainage is excellent all suit this cold hardy perennial.
