  •   Sempervivum Emerald Swirl is a frost-hardy succulent belonging to the Crassulaceae family, commonly called a hen and chicks plant. Native to the mountains of Europe and Asia Minor, it evolved in rocky alpine terrain where extreme conditions are standard. It is one of the toughest cold hardy plants you can grow indoors or out.

It forms tight, upright rosettes with fleshy pointed leaves that spiral outward in a swirl pattern. The foliage is emerald green, sometimes blushing at the tips depending on light and season. The growth habit stands out in containers, rock gardens, and mixed succulent arrangements.

Like all hens and chicks plants, it is monocarpic, meaning the main rosette flowers once and then produces a ring of offsets that carry on the plant's legacy. Between bloom cycles, Sempervivum 'Emerald Swirl' continues producing an ever-growing cluster of spiraled daughter rosettes. You can leave it up to ten days without water.

Move it outside in summer or keep it there through autumn without disruption. It grows well in pots with good drainage and needs little beyond occasional water and light spring feeding. It is pet friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs, making it a safe choice for households with curious animals.

  •   Sempervivum Emerald Swirl grows well in bright indirect light but tolerates some direct sun; avoid intense south-facing windows where leaves may scorch.

Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings.

Sempervivum 'Emerald Swirl' does best in a gritty, well-draining cactus and succulent mix amended with perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 65 and 75°F indoors and tolerates frost down to around 0°F.

Sempervivum 'Emerald Swirl' is a moderate grower that spreads steadily via offsets and needs only light, occasional feeding with diluted succulent fertilizer in spring.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8. It grows outdoors year-round across Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, and much of California.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
