Blushing Garnet forms tight rosettes in burgundy-red hues with hints of deep garnet that deepen in bright sun. The fleshy, pointed leaves have a smooth, waxy texture, and the mother rosette produces offsets all around it, forming a clumping habit. Individual rosettes typically reach 2-4 inches across, and it spreads steadily outward to create a dense, low-growing mat that works in rock gardens, troughs, and containers.
Like all sempervivums, Blushing Garnet blooms once per rosette, typically in summer, sending up a star-shaped flower cluster on a tall stalk before that rosette completes its lifecycle. The surrounding offsets continue growing, so the display never skips a beat.
Blushing Garnet handles balcony wind and rain with ease, and you can move it outside for summer and leave it there well into autumn without extra protection. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It tolerates dry heated indoor air. Individual rosettes need little to no fertilizer to grow well, and propagation is simple: detach the small offsets called chicks from the mother rosette and press them onto well-draining soil where they root quickly on their own.
