    •   Elephant Bush - Portulacaria afra f. variegata, also called Variegated Elephant Bush, is a succulent shrub from South Africa with a compact, spreading form and variegated foliage. The plant belongs to the Portulacaceae family and grows well in warm, arid conditions where it develops dense branching and abundant small leaves.

The leaves are small, oval, and densely packed along slender stems, with forest green centers and white edges that create a two-tone effect across the plant. Growth habit spreads wide and low rather than tall, making it suitable for hanging baskets or ground-level display. New stems emerge reddish and mature to green.

Portulacaria afra f. variegata produces small pink to red flowers during its blooming season, though the foliage is the primary ornamental feature. Leaf color shifts subtly with light exposure and season.

Rotate it regularly to encourage even growth on all sides, and move it outside for summer if indoors during winter. It tolerates dry, heated air from furnaces and AC units. The plant can stay outdoors in autumn when temperatures remain above freezing. Portulacaria afra f. variegata is pet-friendly and safe around cats and dogs. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It wilts slightly when the soil is completely dry.

    •   Elephant Bush - Portulacaria afra f. variegata grows well in direct sun or low-light spots but scorches in intense south-facing windows without afternoon shade.

Water it every 7-10 days during spring and summer, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings; in winter, water once monthly or less as growth slows.

Portulacaria afra f. variegata does best in well-draining cactus or succulent soil mix to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 50°F and 75°F and is sensitive to cold AC or heater air blowing directly on foliage.

Portulacaria afra f. variegata is a moderate grower that spreads horizontally; fertilize lightly in spring and summer with diluted succulent fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9, 10, and 11, surviving temperatures as low as 20°F in zone 9. It grows outdoors year-round in southern California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, and Hawaii, and in the warmest microclimates of zone 9.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
