  •   Sempervivum Tectorum Andorra is a frost hardy hens and chicks succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the mountain ranges of Europe spanning the Alps to the Pyrenees. It evolved to grow in rocky, exposed terrain with minimal soil and harsh weather, adapting just as readily to a sunny windowsill or garden border as it does to alpine slopes.

'Andorra' forms tight, symmetrical rosettes of fleshy, pointed leaves that cluster and spread into a dense, ground-hugging mat over time. The leaves show a blue-green base color with burgundy to red-tipped edges that intensify in full sun.

Each rosette flowers once during summer, producing a tall star-shaped cluster of pink to reddish flowers on an upright stalk. The blooms attract pollinators and produce pollen, so those with plant allergies may want to note this. After flowering, the parent rosette completes its life cycle while the surrounding offsets, called chicks, carry on and keep the cluster full.

It can stay outdoors year-round on balconies, in rock gardens, or in containers, handling wind, rain, and frost with ease. You can leave it up to ten days without water. It survives temperatures down to 10°F without any protection. 'Andorra' is pet friendly and has a long history of edible and medicinal use in traditional European herbalism.

  •   Sempervivum Tectorum Andorra grows well in partial to full sun, needing at least four to six hours of direct light daily.

Water it deeply but infrequently, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings, roughly every ten to fourteen days.

'Andorra' performs best in a gritty, fast-draining mix such as cactus soil blended with perlite or coarse sand.

It handles temperatures from around 10°F up to 90°F, managing frost exceptionally well.

'Andorra' is a slow to moderate grower that needs little to no fertilizer, growing on neglect rather than rich feeding.

It is hardy in USDA zones 3 through 8, surviving winter lows down to approximately 40°F below zero in the coldest zones. It grows outdoors year-round in Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. It also grows in much of California, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Delaware, and Arkansas without extra protection.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum Tectorum Andorra pet friendly?
A: It is non-toxic and safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What causes the leaves to turn red?
A: Sempervivum Tectorum Andorra naturally deepens its red-tipped edges in full sun exposure as part of its color range.

    Q: How does 'Andorra' spread?
A: It naturally produces offsets called chicks that cluster around the mother rosette and can be gently separated and replanted.

Q: What happens if this plant gets too much water?
A: 'Andorra' roots are susceptible to rot when soil stays wet; the thick fleshy leaves store water, so the soil must dry out completely between waterings.

Q: Can 'Andorra' survive on a balcony?
A: It tolerates balcony wind, rain, and dry air and performs well in containers with good drainage.

Q: How long can this plant survive without water?
A: 'Andorra' stores water in its thick fleshy leaves.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
