  •   Peperomia verticillata 'Red Log', also called the red twist peperomia, is a compact semi-succulent from the Piperaceae family, native to Bolivia and the Caribbean. It grows naturally in humid forest understories, where it clings to rocky slopes and shaded woodland floors.

The leaves are small, oval, and arranged in tight whorls around upright stems, giving each stem a stacked, cylindrical look. The tops of the leaves are dark green, while the undersides are deep burgundy-red, so the stems flash red between each tier. Leaf surfaces have a slightly velvety texture, and the contrast between the two tones becomes more pronounced as the plant matures.

Flower information for this cultivar is limited, so detailed bloom data is not confirmed here. What stands out instead is the foliage density: the whorled leaf nodes pack tightly along each stem, and the red undersides stay consistent year-round rather than appearing only seasonally.

Red Log Plant fits well in a terrarium, where the enclosed environment holds ambient moisture without misting. It also does well near a kitchen, where humidity from cooking and dishwashing keeps the air from drying out too much. Keep it away from direct air conditioning or heating vents, as moving air from either source dries the leaves and can cause the tips to curl. Rotate the pot a quarter turn every week or two so all sides receive even light. This plant is pet friendly, and you can leave it up to ten days without water, which covers short travel periods without needing to arrange plant care.

  •   Peperomia verticillata 'Red Log' grows well in bright indirect light and also does fine under standard office LED panels.

Water it every ten to fourteen days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings.

Red Log Plant does best in a well-draining mix of peat or coco coir blended with perlite at roughly a 2:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and is sensitive to cold drafts from air conditioning units or heating vents nearby.

Red Log Plant is a slow to moderate grower and benefits from a balanced liquid fertilizer applied once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, where frost is rare and temperatures stay above 30°F through winter. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, southern Florida, and coastal Southern California. It can also spend summer outdoors in zones 8 and 9, including parts of Texas, Georgia, and the Pacific Northwest, then move back inside before temperatures drop below 50°F.
  • Q: How often should I water Peperomia verticillata 'Red Log'?
A: Watch the leaves rather than the calendar. When the plant is thirsty, it wilts slightly and the leaves soften a little, so check the soil and the foliage together before watering.

Q: Is this plant safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes. Peperomia verticillata 'Red Log' is non-toxic and pet friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: Can Red Log Plant grow under artificial office lighting?
A: It grows well under standard fluorescent or LED office panels, so a desk or shelf away from windows works fine.

Q: What happens if I overwater this plant?
A: Red Log Plant is susceptible to root rot if the soil stays wet too long. The stems may turn soft at the base and the lower leaves can yellow and drop before the roots show visible damage.

Q: Can Red Log Plant go outside in summer?
A: Move it outdoors once nighttime temperatures stay consistently above 55°F. Place it in a sheltered spot with filtered light and cover it or bring it in during rain, since the roots are prone to waterlogging in open containers.

Q: How big does this plant get?
A: Red Log Plant stays compact, typically reaching six to ten inches tall in a standard indoor pot, with a similar spread as the stems fill out over time.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
