  •   Peperomia Caperata, also called Ripple Peperomia, is a compact tropical houseplant in the Piperaceae family, native to the rainforests of Brazil. It grows naturally on the forest floor, where it thrives in filtered light and humid conditions.

The leaves are small and heart-shaped, with a deeply corrugated surface that runs between the veins, giving the plant its rippled texture. Leaf color is typically dark green on top, with reddish-purple undersides that deepen in certain light conditions. It grows in a low, mounding rosette form, reaching around 8 inches tall and wide at maturity.

Ripple Peperomia produces slender, upright flower spikes called spadices that rise above the foliage in spring and summer. The spikes are cream to light green and carry no fragrance. It is also pet-friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs, and it actively filters indoor air, including formaldehyde and other common household toxins.

Fit it inside a terrarium or tuck it near a kitchen window where ambient moisture keeps the air around it humid. Move it outside for summer in a sheltered spot, but cover it or bring it in when rain is expected. It wilts slightly when dry, and the leaves perk back up after watering. You can leave it alone for up to ten days without water, and it tolerates the dry, heated air that comes with running indoor heating systems. Rotate the pot every few weeks so each side gets even light exposure, and keep it away from direct air currents from AC vents or heaters.

  •   Peperomia Caperata grows well in bright indirect light and also handles office fluorescent and LED lighting without issue. Avoid south-facing windows where direct sun scorches the leaves.

Water it every 10 to 14 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between sessions.

Ripple Peperomia does best in a well-draining mix of peat or coco coir blended with perlite to prevent soggy roots.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and is sensitive to cold drafts from air conditioners and heaters.

Ripple Peperomia is a slow to moderate grower, staying compact at under 12 inches. Feed it with a balanced liquid fertilizer once a month during spring and summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 10 to 12, where frost is rare and temperatures stay above 50°F year-round. It grows outdoors in southern Florida, Hawaii, and parts of coastal Southern California. It can also move outdoors temporarily in summer across most of the continental United States, as long as it is returned indoors before temperatures drop in autumn.
  • Q: Is Peperomia Caperata safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when it needs more or less light?
A: Peperomia Caperata is best placed near an east- or north-facing window. If the leaves develop pale or bleached patches, it is receiving too much direct sun. If growth slows and stems stretch toward the light, move it a few inches closer to the window.

Q: How do I know when Ripple Peperomia needs water?
A: It wilts slightly when the soil has been dry too long. Check the top inch of soil with your finger before watering.

Q: Can it survive while I am away on a trip?
A: Ripple Peperomia stores water in its thick leaves and stems, so it can go up to ten days without being watered.

Q: Can Ripple Peperomia grow in a terrarium?
A: Yes, its compact size and preference for humidity make it a good fit for open or lightly enclosed terrariums.

Q: What happens if I overwater it?
A: Ripple Peperomia is susceptible to root rot when the soil stays wet for extended periods. The leaves may turn soft or yellow, and stems can become mushy at the base if drainage is poor.

    🌿 For Houseplants
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging as soon as possible and review the care instructions included with your order. Water based on your plant’s needs, making sure not to overwater.
Houseplants may need a short adjustment period after arrival. Give your plant time to acclimate to its new space before placing it with other plants. You can gently clean the leaves if needed, and wait to fertilize until it has settled in. Always check soil moisture instead of watering on a fixed schedule.
*** We pack carefully to protect each plant during transit, so larger orders may arrive in multiple packages.
