  •   Haworthia 'Concolor' (Haworthiopsis attenuata 'Concolor') is a compact succulent native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa, where it grows in rocky, semi-arid terrain under partial shade. It belongs to the Asphodelaceae family and forms tight, low-growing rosettes that stay small enough for a windowsill or desktop.

The leaves are thick, upright, and tapering, arranged in a dense rosette that typically stays under five inches across. Unlike standard Haworthia attenuata varieties, the leaves of Haworthia Concolor are smooth and uniform green on both surfaces, without the white tubercle banding on the inner face. The outer surface may carry faint speckled green markings, and the leaf edges have small, evenly spaced teeth along the margins.

Haworthia Concolor produces slender flower stalks in late spring to early summer, bearing small tubular white flowers with faint pink or brownish striping. It blooms once a year and the flowers are not fragrant. Like other haworthias, it does produce pollen and can trigger reactions in allergy-sensitive households.

Place it in a terrarium or group it with other drought-tolerant succulents on a shelf away from direct AC or heating vents, as dry heated air from these sources can cause leaf tip browning. You can move it outside for summer, though it needs cover from rain to avoid root rot. Haworthia Concolor releases oxygen at night rather than during the day, and you can leave it up to ten days without water. This plant is pet friendly.

  •   Haworthia 'Concolor' grows well in bright indirect light, such as an east- or north-facing window, or a few feet back from a south-facing one.

Water it every ten to fourteen days during the growing season, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and reduce to once a month in winter.

Haworthia Concolor does best in a well-draining cactus or succulent mix, amended with perlite or coarse grit to prevent moisture from sitting around the roots.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F and should not be exposed to temperatures below 40°F for any extended period.

Haworthia Concolor is a slow-growing succulent; feed it with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength once in spring and once in early summer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F to 30°F but not sustained freezes. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and parts of the Gulf Coast states including Louisiana and Georgia. It performs well as a container plant that moves outside seasonally across much of the continental United States.
  • Q: Is Haworthia 'Concolor' safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic to cats and dogs. The sap may cause mild skin irritation if handled with broken leaves, but it is not harmful if a pet chews on it.

Q: How slow does this succulent actually grow?
A: Haworthia 'Concolor' typically adds only a few new leaves per growing season and may take several years to fill a four-inch pot.

Q: Can Haworthia Concolor grow under office lighting?
A: Yes, it tolerates fluorescent and LED office lighting reasonably well, especially when placed directly under or close to the light source rather than in a dim corner.

Q: What happens if this succulent gets too much water?
A: Haworthia Concolor is prone to root rot when the soil stays wet too long. The leaves may turn soft and mushy at the base before any wilting shows at the tips, so checking the soil rather than the leaf appearance catches overwatering earlier.

Q: Can Haworthia Concolor go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay consistently above 50°F. Keep it under a covered porch or shade cloth since it needs protection from rain and needs shade from midday and afternoon sun to avoid scorching.

Q: How do I know when it needs more light?
A: Haworthia Concolor will start to etiolate, stretching toward the light source with wider gaps between leaves and a looser rosette, when light levels are too low. Moving it to a brighter east- or north-facing spot usually reverses this over several weeks.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
