  •   Graptopetalum 'Murasaki' is a succulent in the Crassulaceae family, bred as a hybrid cultivar with Graptopetalum parentage native to Mexico and the southwestern United States. It produces compact rosettes with powdery, pastel-toned leaves and is considered a rare collector find among succulent enthusiasts.

The leaves are thick, spoon-shaped, and arranged in tight rosettes, covered in a fine farina that gives the surface a matte, powdery finish. Leaf color shifts between soft lavender, dusty pink, and grey-purple depending on light exposure and temperature. Each rosette stays compact and low, with the farina smudging easily if the leaves are touched.

Flower information specific to 'Murasaki' is not widely documented, so bloom details are not confirmed here. What is confirmed is that the pastel pink and lavender tones in the foliage deepen noticeably with increased sun exposure, and a drop in nighttime temperature can intensify the purple-violet hues across the rosette.

Move it outside for summer in a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade, and bring it back indoors before the first frost. It needs cover from rain, as standing water on the farina-coated leaves and in the rosette center can cause rot. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it wilts slightly when dry. This plant is pet friendly.

  •   Graptopetalum 'Murasaki' grows well in bright indirect light to partial direct sun, preferably near an east- or south-facing window.

Water it every 10 to 14 days during the growing season, letting the soil dry out fully between waterings, and reduce to once a month in winter.

'Murasaki' does best in a fast-draining cactus and succulent mix combined with perlite at a roughly 2:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F indoors and does not tolerate prolonged exposure to air conditioner or heater vents.

'Murasaki' is a slow-growing cultivar; feed it once in spring and once in midsummer with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9 to 11, tolerating brief dips to around 25°F but suffering damage below that threshold. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Hawaii. It also survives mild winters along coastal South Carolina, Georgia, and the Gulf Coast of Mississippi and Alabama.
  • Q: How much sun does Graptopetalum 'Murasaki' need indoors?
A: An east-facing window works well for consistent bright light without scorching. A south-facing window can cause farina damage and leaf bleaching if the plant sits too close to the glass. Rotate it every week or two for even growth on all sides.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Graptopetalum 'Murasaki' wilts slightly and the lower leaves may feel soft or slightly puckered when the soil has been dry long enough. Overwatered plants show mushy, translucent leaves at the base rather than a gradual softening.

Q: Is 'Murasaki' safe for cats and dogs?
A: It is pet friendly and non-toxic to cats and dogs.

Q: How do I propagate this succulent?
A: 'Murasaki' propagates readily from leaf pulls or stem offsets. Allow a pulled leaf to callous for two to three days, then set it on dry succulent mix. Roots and a small rosette emerge within a few weeks.

Q: Why are the leaves on 'Murasaki' turning yellow?
A: Yellow leaves at the base are usually a sign of overwatering or soil that is not draining quickly enough. If the yellowing is happening across newer leaves, the plant may not be getting enough light.

Q: Can this succulent handle dry indoor air in winter?
A: 'Murasaki' tolerates the dry heated air common in winter interiors without issue. Keep it away from direct heater vents, which can cause rapid soil drying and stress to the outermost leaves.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
