  •   Echeveria 'Silver Shine' is a compact rosette-forming succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the semi-arid regions of Mexico. It has been developed as a cultivated hybrid, selected for its silvery gray leaf coloration and tight, symmetrical growth habit.

The leaves are thick, spoon-shaped, and coated in a powdery farina that gives the rosette an even, matte silver-gray finish. Each rosette stays compact, typically reaching 3 to 4 inches across, with leaves arranged in a dense, overlapping spiral. The farina coating is uniform across both the upper and lower leaf surfaces.

'Silver Shine' produces slender flower stalks in spring or early summer, bearing small, bell-shaped blooms in coral to orange-pink tones. A consistent drop in nighttime temperatures encourages it to set buds and bloom. The flowers are not fragrant but appear reliably when the plant has had adequate light and a cooler winter rest period.

Rotate it every few weeks so each side receives equal light and the rosette stays symmetrical. Keep it away from air conditioning and heating vents, as direct airflow from either will dry out the leaves unevenly. You can move it outside for summer, but cover it from rain to protect the farina. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it handles dry heated indoor air without trouble. This plant is pet friendly.

  •   Echeveria 'Silver Shine' grows best in bright indirect light, such as an east- or west-facing window.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in spring and summer, allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings, and reduce to once a month in winter.

'Silver Shine' does best in a well-draining cactus and succulent mix, or standard potting soil blended with coarse perlite at a 1:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F indoors and should be brought inside before temperatures fall below 40°F.

'Silver Shine' is a slow-growing succulent that stays compact; feed it once in spring and once in summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11b, tolerating lows around 25°F to 30°F for brief periods. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and coastal areas of Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Alabama. It can also stay outdoors through autumn in zone 9 gardens before overnight temperatures drop too low.
  • Q: How often should I water Echeveria 'Silver Shine'?
A: Check the soil before watering. If the top inch is still moist, wait a few more days. Overwatering is the most common issue with this type of succulent, and soggy soil will cause the roots to rot quickly.

Q: Is this succulent safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes. Echeveria 'Silver Shine' is non-toxic and pet friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: Can 'Silver Shine' sit in a south-facing window?
A: A south-facing window can be too intense, especially in summer. Direct midday sun through glass can scorch the leaves and burn through the farina coating. A few feet back from a south window, or an east- or west-facing sill, works better.

Q: How fast does this succulent grow?
A: 'Silver Shine' is a slow grower and stays compact, usually reaching 3 to 4 inches across over several years. Offsetting can occur at the base once the plant matures.

Q: Can 'Silver Shine' go outside in summer?
A: Yes, move it outside once nighttime temperatures stay reliably above 50°F. Place it in a spot with bright light but keep it sheltered from rain, which can wash away the farina and sit in the rosette center.

Q: How do I get this succulent to bloom?
A: 'Silver Shine' needs a drop in nighttime temperatures during autumn and winter, ideally into the low 50s°F, to trigger bud development. Keeping it in a cooler room near a window through winter, then moving it to brighter light in spring, gives it the best chance of blooming.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
