  •   Echeveria laulensis is a rare succulent in the Crassulaceae family, native to the rocky hillsides of Loja Province in southern Ecuador. It forms a compact rosette and is sought after by collectors for its distinctive blue-grey to silvery-green leaves coated in a heavy layer of farina.

The leaves are broad, spoon-shaped, and tightly arranged into a symmetrical rosette that typically reaches 4 to 6 inches across. Each leaf is covered in a thick powdery farina, giving the plant a soft, frosted appearance in cool silver-blue tones. The leaf tips can flush with pale pink or lavender hues when the plant receives strong light or experiences a temperature drop. This farina coating is delicate and will not grow back if touched or rubbed off.

Echeveria laulensis produces slender arching stems, called cymes, that carry small bell-shaped flowers in coral to orange-pink tones, typically blooming in late spring or early summer. A drop in nighttime temperatures in autumn or winter can trigger the bloom cycle. It is pet-friendly, so no precautions are needed around cats or dogs.

Rotate it every week or two so each side receives equal light and the rosette stays symmetrical. Keep it away from air conditioning vents and heating units, as direct blasts of dry or cold air can stress the leaves. You can move it outside for summer, but position it under a roof or overhang, as rain can wash off the farina and leave water spots on the leaves. You can leave it up to ten days without water, and it tolerates the dry heated air common in most homes during winter months.

  •   Echeveria laulensis grows best in bright indirect light or partial direct sun, such as an east- or west-facing window.

Water it every 10 to 14 days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings, and reduce to once a month in winter.

Echeveria laulensis does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix, such as cactus soil blended with 50% perlite or coarse sand.

It prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F indoors and should not be exposed to temperatures below 40°F.

Echeveria laulensis is a slow-growing rosette succulent; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer at half strength once in spring and once in midsummer.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11b, tolerating minimum temperatures down to around 25°F to 30°F. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, Hawaii, and along the Gulf Coast. It can also stay outdoors through autumn in zone 9 gardens before overnight temperatures push below its threshold.
  • Q: Is Echeveria laulensis safe for cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet-friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when it needs water?
A: Echeveria laulensis will show slightly soft or lightly wilted leaves when the soil has been dry long enough that it needs watering. Check the soil first — if it is bone dry an inch down, it is time.

Q: Can Echeveria laulensis sit in a south-facing window?
A: A south-facing window in direct sun can scorch the leaves, especially during summer months. A few feet back from that window, or a spot in an east- or west-facing window, works better.

Q: How large does this succulent get?
A: Echeveria laulensis forms a compact rosette that typically reaches 4 to 6 inches in diameter and stays relatively low-growing.

Q: What happens if I overwater Echeveria laulensis?
A: The lower leaves will turn soft, translucent, or mushy, and the stem can begin to rot at the base. Always let the soil dry fully between waterings.

Q: Can this succulent go outside in summer?
A: Yes, Echeveria laulensis can move outdoors when temperatures are consistently above 50°F, but keep it sheltered from rain to protect the farina coating on the leaves.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
