  •   Echeveria Joan Daniel (Echeveria ciliata x nodulosa 'Joan Daniel') is a rare Korean hybrid succulent bred from two textured Echeveria species, Echeveria ciliata and Echeveria nodulosa. It belongs to the Crassulaceae family and carries the compact rosette form typical of its genus, refined through careful hybridization.

'Joan Daniel' forms a tight rosette of fleshy, slightly elongated leaves with fine cilia along the margins, a trait inherited from Echeveria ciliata. The leaf faces are pale green to silvery-green, marked with burgundy-red brushstroke patterns along the midrib and edges, a feature passed down from the nodulosa parent. The surface has a lightly textured, almost matte finish that catches light without any waxy sheen.

It produces upright flower stalks in spring, bearing small bell-shaped blooms in coral to red tones that are typical of the nodulosa lineage. The flowers carry pollen and can trigger mild allergies in sensitive individuals. Rotate the pot a quarter turn every week or two so each side of the rosette receives even light exposure.

Move it outside once temperatures stay reliably above 50°F in summer, but keep it covered or sheltered from rain, as standing water in the rosette can cause rot. 'Joan Daniel' wilts slightly when it needs water, and the leaves plump back up within a day or two of a good drink. This plant is pet friendly, and you can leave it up to ten days without water. It is a genuinely rare find, sought by Echeveria collectors who focus on Korean hybrids with complex leaf patterning.

  •   Echeveria Joan Daniel grows best in bright indirect light, about two to three feet from an east- or west-facing window.

Water it every ten to fourteen days in the growing season, letting the soil dry out completely between waterings.

'Joan Daniel' does best in a gritty, fast-draining mix of cactus soil blended with perlite at a roughly 1:1 ratio.

It prefers temperatures between 60°F and 80°F indoors and should be kept away from air conditioning vents and heating units.

'Joan Daniel' is a slow to moderate grower; feed it with a diluted balanced fertilizer once a month during spring and summer only.

It is hardy in USDA zones 9b through 11, tolerating lows down to around 25°F to 30°F for very brief periods. It grows outdoors year-round in California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Hawaii. It also grows outdoors in parts of Oregon, Alabama, and Mississippi that fall within those zones.
  • Q: Is Echeveria Joan Daniel safe to keep around cats and dogs?
A: Yes, it is non-toxic and pet friendly for both cats and dogs.

Q: How do I know when this succulent needs water?
A: Echeveria Joan Daniel wilts slightly and the leaves lose a little firmness when it is dry. Once watered, the leaves plump back up within a day or two.

Q: Can 'Joan Daniel' grow under office LED lights?
A: It can survive under bright office LEDs placed close to the fixture, but growth will be slower and the burgundy leaf markings may fade compared to a window position.

Q: How do I propagate this succulent?
A: 'Joan Daniel' propagates from leaf cuttings or offsets. Gently twist a healthy leaf cleanly from the stem, let it callous for a day or two, then lay it on dry gritty mix until roots appear.

Q: Why are the leaves on 'Joan Daniel' turning yellow?
A: Yellow leaves are most often a sign of overwatering or soil that is not draining fast enough. Check that the roots are not sitting in wet soil and cut back watering frequency.

Q: Can this succulent stay outside in autumn?
A: 'Joan Daniel' can stay outside into autumn as long as nighttime temperatures stay above 30°F. Bring it indoors before the first frost.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
