  • Opuntia monacantha f. monstruosa variegata is the variegated dwarf variant of the Prickly Pear Opuntia monacantha. This rare succulent is commonly known as 'Joseph's Coat'. This cactus is beautifully marbled with creamy white, yellow and green. This erect fleshy succulent plant can grow up to 6 feet (1.8 m) tall. Its trunk grows flat round-shaped branches or pads at the top. Both its trunks and branches have multiple tiny pointy spines.

Variegated Opuntia monacantha produces showy red flowers from late spring to early autumn.

All of the plants may be shipped bare root.
  • Full sun. Direct sunlight is necessary.

A very low amount of water is required. Hot and dry atmosphere is best for Variegated Opuntia monacantha so overwatering could lead to root rot.

    Porous and well-drained potting soil.

You can propagate either by cuttings or by seed. To propagate by cuttings, remove a pad from the plant and let it callous over for a couple of days. Then place it in dry soil and do not water it until it begins to grow. To propagate by seed, remove the pulp from the seeds and let them dry completely then plant them in dry well-drained soil – ideally in the spring.
  • Hardiness: Hardy to 32°F
  • * We use 3.5 inch wide clay pots for 4" plant + clay pot option.
Your plant will be carefully wrapped in a sturdy box. Most of the succulents will be shipped bare-root to ensure their safety. *** The size options are represtentative of pots that the plants come in. Sometimes customer may receive multiple plants instead of a large one to make up size.

*** All of our packages are sterilized before leaving the door.
  • We only ship out beautiful, healthy plants! Please track your package and open it immediately upon arrival. If you receive your package and are not satisfied, please message us immediately. Fragile plants such as bearpaw, baby toe, etc. may break or loose a few of their leaves during transport. Please contact us for replacements if your plants are severely damaged. We'll try our best to accommodate you. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grown in, depending on availability or time of year.
  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.

Love all my new succulents

I received my order and they all are in great shape. They are doing well. One thing I wish you could do was to put a tag on the plants because sometimes they do not look like the photo and it would be so helpful for us newbies.

Cute but low variegation

I love opuntia and they seem to do well under grow lights in my house. I have a Joseph’s coat that I got about a year ago, so I thought it would be fun to have the variegated variety as well. The plant I received is actually three separate little plants. They’re well-established and have substantial roots, but only one has any variegation and it’s hard to spot unless you know what to look for. It’s still adorable, but that’s a little disappointing.

It arrive in great condition and y'all selected a really nice one for me as it has the arms coming off the sides like a Suguara. Thank you so very much. And "yes" I would purchase from you again.
