  • Cotyledon tomentosa subsp. ladismithiensis, native to South Africa, is also known as Cotyledon Bear Paw or Bear’s Paw. This is a very rare species.

It is a succulent shrublet up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall. It is densely branched and covered with fine tiny white hairs, giving it a velvety look. The leaves are up to 2 inches (5 cm) long, fleshy, lime-green, with creamy yellow variegation and sometimes reddish tips. These leaves usually have from 1 to 3 apical teeth, resembling the "bear claws".

Cotyledon Bear's Paw produces clusters of yellow to orange-red bell-shaped flowers in late spring.

All of the plants may be shipped bare root.
  • Porous.

    Bright light and ample airflow.

Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch then let drain completely.

Feed with a controlled-release fertilizer at the beginning of the growing season.

Sempervivum Grape Tone can easily be propagated by separating and replanting offsets in planting medium.

  • We only ship out beautiful, healthy plants! Please track your package and open it immediately upon arrival. If you receive your package and are not satisfied, please message us immediately. Fragile plants such as bearpaw, baby toe, etc. may break or loose a few of their leaves during transport. Please contact us for replacements if your plants are severely damaged. We'll try our best to accommodate you. Plants may be slightly larger or smaller than the pot they are grown in, depending on availability or time of year.
  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.

Paws for days

I couldn't be happier with this latest purchase. I have over a dozen succulents now that I have been collecting for a few months and they are all in wonderful condition thriving and beautiful up to and including my new variegated bear paw that arrived only two days ago. So fuzzy and adorable with its little ridges and plump leaves! Right now it still has some dirt from planting stuck to its fine hairs but I am giving it some time to settle in before I try to gently brush or blow it off. Yes - a small air blower does come in handy with succulents! There were actually six small sprouts in this shipment, all with good roots and already taking nicely to soil (also purchased here) so I have even more than I expected! Thanks again Succulents Box!

Plants can very well packaged. Varieties are a bit smaller than I perceive them, but all in good shape.

Customer Service

My plant arrived frozen (I live in Minnesota). However, the customer service from Succulents Box was outstanding and I will order from them again (when it's not below zero here)! Thank you for an over-all positive experience!
