  •   Pachypodium Brevicaule is a rare caudiciform succulent native to the high plateaus of Madagascar, where it grows in rocky, sun-baked terrain at elevations above 4,000 feet. This plant is highly sought-after among collectors for its drought tolerance and sculptural form.

Its flattened, disc-shaped caudex spreads low and wide rather than growing tall, giving it an almost alien form. Its silvery-grey body is studded with short spines, and it develops a clumping growth pattern over time, slowly expanding into a broader mound. The result is a compact succulent with a distinctive silhouette.

Pachypodium Brevicaule produces bright yellow flowers that emerge from the center of the caudex, typically in spring. A night temperature drop encourages blooming.

As a slow-growing succulent, it appeals to collectors who appreciate long-term plant stewardship. The compact footprint makes it suitable for a bright windowsill or sunny outdoor display during summer months. It should be placed on a high shelf well out of reach, as the sap can cause skin and paw irritation, and cats, dogs, and small children should not be left to nibble or handle it.

  •   Pachypodium Brevicaule grows well in bright indirect light, full sun, or direct sun, needing at least 6 hours of strong light daily.

Water it deeply every 2-3 weeks during the growing season, reducing to once a month or less during winter dormancy.

Pachypodium Brevicaule performs best in a fast-draining mix of coarse pumice, perlite, and a small amount of cactus soil.

It prefers temperatures between 60-95°F and must be protected from anything approaching freezing.

Pachypodium Brevicaule is a slow-growing succulent that benefits from a diluted, low-nitrogen fertilizer once or twice during the active growing season.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 10-11, where temperatures rarely dip below 30-35°F. It grows outdoors year-round in Hawaii, South Florida, and the warmest coastal areas of Southern California. Move it outside for summer in Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and Nevada, provided it is brought indoors before autumn temperatures drop toward freezing.
  • Q: How often should I water Pachypodium Brevicaule?
A: Check the soil before watering; allow it to dry completely between waterings. During dormancy, once a month or less is sufficient.

Q: Is this plant safe for homes with pets?
A: Pachypodium Brevicaule's sap causes skin and paw irritation in cats and dogs. Keep it on a high shelf out of reach of all pets and small children.

Q: How fast does Pachypodium Brevicaule grow?
A: It expands its caudex gradually over many years.

Q: Can I move it outside in summer?
A: Pachypodium Brevicaule thrives outdoors in bright, sunny conditions, but shelter it from rain and avoid sudden temperature swings. Bring it indoors well before autumn frost.

Q: Why are leaves on Pachypodium Brevicaule turning yellow?
A: Yellow leaves often result from soil staying too wet or insufficient light. Allow the substrate to dry fully between waterings and position it in a location receiving direct sun or bright indirect light for most of the day.

Q: How do I propagate this plant?
A: Pachypodium Brevicaule is most commonly grown from seed, as it does not readily produce offsets.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
