  •   Sempervivum Calcareum 'Greenii' is a frost hardy hens and chicks succulent from the Crassulaceae family, native to the limestone mountain regions of southern Europe. It clusters naturally across rocky, well-drained terrain and spreads through offsets.

It forms tight, symmetrical rosettes with fleshy, blue-green leaves tipped in reddish-purple, creating a two-toned contrast across each plant. Individual rosettes stay compact, typically 2 to 4 inches across, with smooth, slightly glaucous leaf surfaces. As it clusters outward, it produces small offsets called chicks that fill in surrounding space.

Each rosette flowers once in its lifetime, sending up a tall stalk with star-shaped pink to reddish blooms in summer. The flowers produce pollen and can trigger mild allergies in sensitive individuals during bloom season. After flowering, that rosette dies back while the surrounding chicks continue growing, keeping the plant full and established.

Move it outside in summer or leave it outdoors year-round in its hardiness zones. It handles balcony wind and rain without trouble and tolerates dry heated indoor air. Tuck it into rock gardens, alpine troughs, container arrangements, or use it indoors under rotating placement for even rosette development. It is pet friendly and historically used in folk herbal medicine.

  •   Sempervivum Calcareum 'Greenii' grows well in partial to full sun and tolerates lower light indoors with regular rotation for balanced rosette growth.

Water it deeply every 10 to 14 days, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings.

Sempervivum 'Greenii' does best in a gritty, fast-draining succulent or cactus mix combined with perlite or coarse sand to prevent root rot.

It prefers temperatures between 65 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit and is frost tolerant, surviving well below freezing with proper drainage.

Sempervivum 'Greenii' is a slow to moderate grower that rarely needs fertilizer, benefiting from a single light, diluted succulent feed in early spring at most.

It is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9, tolerating frost down to around negative 30 degrees Fahrenheit. It grows outdoors across much of the Midwest, mid-Atlantic, Pacific Northwest, and Southeast, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and much of California and Texas.
  • Q: Is Sempervivum Calcareum 'Greenii' pet friendly?
A: It is safe for cats and dogs.

Q: What happens if I overwater it?
A: Sempervivum Calcareum 'Greenii' is prone to root rot with excess moisture, so allowing the soil to dry completely between waterings is essential.

Q: How big do individual rosettes of Sempervivum 'Greenii' get?
A: Each rosette typically reaches 2 to 4 inches across, though the plant spreads wider as offsets cluster around the mother plant.

Q: Can I leave it outdoors in autumn and winter?
A: Sempervivum 'Greenii' handles cold temperatures without issue in its hardiness zones; just ensure it has cover from prolonged heavy rain to protect the roots.

Q: How do I propagate Sempervivum 'Greenii'?
A: Detach small offset chicks from the mother rosette and pot them in gritty, well-draining soil where they root quickly and grow into full rosettes.

Q: What light conditions does it need indoors?
A: Sempervivum 'Greenii' tolerates lower indoor light but needs regular rotation to develop even, balanced rosettes without stretching toward the window.

    🌵 For Succulents
When your package arrives, you may notice a bit of loose soil in the box. This is completely normal during shipping.
Please remove your plants from their packaging right away and follow the care instructions included with your order. Succulents prefer to dry out between waterings, so only water when the soil is completely dry.
Succulents are resilient plants and typically recover quickly once they settle into their new environment. Give them a few days to adjust before placing them in direct sunlight, and avoid fertilizing right away.
