Pachypodium brevicaule, which means "thick-foot, short-stem", has a grey caudex that resembles an elephant's trunk. This rare plant is one of the smaller species of the family. Pachypodium brevicaule is native to south-central Madagascar and can grow up to 12 inches (30 cm) in diameter. Its stem also looks like a blob (or a cow-pie) because it is compressed horizontally and doesn't reach over a few inches high.

The tube-shaped bright yellow flowers are about 3 cm in diameter and bloom in the summer. Its leaves, which are about 2-4 cm long and 1-2 cm wide, form loosely compact rosettes.

Porous and well-drained potting mix. Optimal pH is around 5.0 to 6.0 (slightly acidic).

Water thoroughly only when soil is dry to the touch, then let drain completely. Reduce watering to a minimum in the winter.

This plant cannot tolerate the cold, should always be kept in warm temperatures. The minimum temperature required is about 55°F (13°C).

* Minimalist Pot Options: White/ Oatmeal/ Gray colors are randomly picked

* Grower pot option is plastic pot, the color of the plastic pot will be random (brown, black, white or green)

* We use 3.5 inch wide clay pots for 4" succulent plant + clay pot option.

Your plant will be carefully wrapped in a sturdy box. Most of the succulents will be shipped bare-root to ensure their safety. If you want to receive the plastic pot & soil, please leave a note in your order. When opening your package, some soil may be loose in the box. Plant orders are shipped within 3-5 days depending on the availability of the plant. We ship our plants Monday through Friday, all twelve months of the year! We only ship out beautiful, healthy plants! Please track your package and open it immediately upon arrival. If you receive your package and are not satisfied, please message us immediately. Fragile plants such as bearpaw, baby toe, etc. may break or loose a few of their leaves during transport. Please contact us for replacements if your plants are severely damaged. Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.

Cute but super touchy

This plant came in absolute wonderful condition. I was super impressed with the packaging and care that was taken. Unfortunately, I think I loved it a little too much because it has since died. But I do not regret purchasing it. I think it was my lack of knowledge about this little cutie. If you think you know how to take care of it, I would definitely recommend getting this plant.

I managed to kill my first one and purchased a second because I just love this little plant. My current plant was slightly larger than a pea when it arrived and had one teeny leaf. It lost the leaf. Currently, I can see that the inside of the caudex looks green but shows no sign of developing a leaf. Suggestions?

When I plant this, should only the roots be covered or also part of the "bulb"...caudex...or what ever it's called...the gray part?
