  •   Philodendron 'Red Heart' (Philodendron hybrid) is a rare collector philodendron from the tropical rainforests of Central and South America, where it evolved as a climbing plant in the forest understory. This hybrid has captured the attention of serious indoor plant enthusiasts worldwide for its foliage and trailing vine growth habit.

Heart-shaped leaves emerge with a vivid reddish-pink blush before maturing to a deep glossy green. The vines grow long and generously, trailing in a hanging basket or from a high shelf. Leaf surfaces are smooth and slightly waxy, with bold venation.

Philodendron Red Heart is grown primarily for its spectacular foliage rather than its blooms, with verified flowering details for this hybrid remaining limited. New leaves emerge continuously in reddish tones.

Bright indirect light keeps this philodendron growing well near a kitchen or bathroom where ambient moisture supports its tropical roots. Move it outside in summer to a sheltered, shaded spot, and bring it back indoors before temperatures drop. Rotate it every few weeks for even, balanced growth on all sides. Keep it well out of reach of cats and dogs, as the sap can irritate their mouths and paws.

  •   Philodendron 'Red Heart' grows well in bright indirect light and scorches easily in direct south-facing sun.

Water it every 7-10 days, allowing the top inch of soil to dry between waterings.

Philodendron Red Heart does best in a chunky, well-draining aroid mix of perlite, bark, and potting soil.

It prefers temperatures between 65-85°F and should never be exposed to frost or temperatures below 50°F.

Philodendron Red Heart is a moderate-to-fast grower during spring and summer, benefiting from balanced liquid fertilizer applied monthly.

It is hardy in USDA Zones 10-12, where temperatures rarely dip below 30-35°F, and it is not frost tolerant. It grows outdoors year-round in Florida, Hawaii, southern California, and the southernmost parts of Texas and Arizona. In Louisiana, coastal Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, and coastal areas of Oregon and Washington, it can grow outside with seasonal protection, while plant lovers across all remaining states enjoy it as an indoor tropical houseplant.
  • Q: How often should I water Philodendron 'Red Heart'?
A: During spring and summer, check that the top inch of soil feels dry before watering. In winter, water less frequently as growth slows.

Q: What light conditions does this plant need?
A: Philodendron 'Red Heart' grows best positioned a few feet from an east or west-facing window, where it receives bright indirect light without direct sun exposure.

Q: Is Philodendron Red Heart safe around pets?
A: No. Keep it well out of reach of cats and dogs, as the sap irritates their mouths and paws.

Q: How do I encourage even growth?
A: Philodendron Red Heart develops evenly when rotated a quarter turn every two to three weeks so all sides receive equal light exposure.

Q: Can Philodendron Red Heart go outside during summer?
A: Yes, move it to a sheltered, shaded outdoor spot during warm months and bring it back inside before temperatures drop.

Q: How rare is this plant compared to other philodendrons?
A: Philodendron Red Heart is less commonly found than standard philodendron varieties in the commercial plant trade.

  • Provide porous soil with adequate drainage, pots with drainage hole are recommended. Bright, filtered light and ample airflow. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Never let your succulents sit in water. Do NOT water on the leaves. If you water from beneath by letting the plant sit in a saucer of water, make sure to pour off any excess water after a few minutes. The hotter it is outside, the faster your soil will dry out, so you’ll need to water more often if you live in a hot area. Water with caution in winter, as the plant can lose its roots if the soil stays cold and wet for extended periods; protect from frost to prevent scarring.
